Favorite Mythological Characters?

Postby Aeritai » Sun Nov 01, 2020 3:39 pm

Since 2020 is a crazy year full of chaos right now, I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread to talk about mythological characters from different types of literature. There are many different mythological stories full of interesting characters who have done some good deeds and sometimes do questionable deeds. Basically, the purpose of this thread is discuss our favorite mythological characters from Greek, Norse, British, and other myths from different literatures. With that said let us start the discussion and talk about our favorite mythological characters.

For me I don't have any favorite mythological characters, but I do find Oedipus interesting due to him thinking he avoided the prophecy of killing his father and marrying his mother. Until he finally discovers that he indeed filled the prophecy which drove him to madness by stabbing out his own eyes. So yeah Oedipus was definitely a interesting character from Greek mythology and a very tragic one at that too.

I'm not sure he counts as a mythological character.

I was tempted to complain that God isn't a mythological character. But instead, I will state the completely obvious fact that the best mythological character is the moral politician.

Probably Surya the sun god considering my nation name derives from him and his son Karna is one of the best characters in the Mahabharata.

Regardless of whether you believe God to be a real person, he is still a mythological figure.

Mythological tends to imply that something isn't real. That's what I would object to.

So, would you say that Pac-Man and Tony the Tiger are mythological characters?

The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.
