It sucked, Thunderball was never even that great a film anyway and is overrated, but the knock off Kevin McClory made with a much older Sean Connery comes off like a big and unnecessary fuck you to Ian Fleming, EON Productions, Albert Broccoli, and so on. It takes Thunderball and made it like 10 times worse, and I refuse to acknowledge it and the 60s Casino Royale as "Bond" films. And BTW the fact the 60s Casino Royale, which is a clusterfuck of itself is only slightly better than Thunderball 2 says a lot. Fucking Hell even the snoozefest Spectre and the godawful Quantum of Solace is better.

I like Quantum of Solace, it takes a rewatch but it's actually quite good.

In the DVD extras of Casino Royale they have a whole feature on Fleming in the Bahamas, plus the whole EON saga as to why it took so long to make the film. The poker players are actually from a pool scene from an earlier film also in the Bahamas. They were friends of Fleming.

There's an apocryphal tale that Casino Royale is based on a poker game Fleming and a friend played against some Nazis in Portugal, apparently they lost.

Is it wrong that my first response on this thread was to try to think of a pun based on that SNL skit with Sean Connery on Jeopardy?

Apt; because Connery played Agamemnon in one of my favorite Christmas movies. Full disclosure, he was an unapologetic wife-beater.

Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Yeah, Homer made him into kind of a jerk, including having Thersites beaten nearly to death for pointing that out.

Now there's even less reason to have hope for a good Indiana Jones movie to ever be made again.

So then... am I the only one who likes the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie and PRIMARILY remember Sean Connery from that movie (and associates him with it mainly)?

When it came out, I was in high school and it was vey exciting when it was advertised on all the screens on the buses I took to school for nearly an entire month.

I was young and impressionable at the time and I thought it was just fantastic how an invisible man, a vampire, an immortal and some shooters were going to team up. And then I went to watch the movie and thought it was the greatest for a very long time.

It was only years later that I heard the movie was critically panned but it was so much fun and it was so atmospheric come now!

Ah the good old days...

Also, when the villain went down they said: "There'll be others like me. YOU CAN'T KILL THE FUTURE!"

Probably. I hated that film.

I did really enjoy that film tbh. The ending was a bit of a let down, like they'd ran out of budget and needed to rush it, but everything preceding it was super fun and interesting.

It popped up in my Amazon recommendations a couple weeks ago and I've been meaning to rewatch it since, I only saw it once back when it came out while I was in middle school and wanted to rewatch it to develop a more informed opinion of it.

EDIT: Just rewatched it, it was nothing to write home about. Ending looks like they were trying to setup for a sequel that never happened.

On Nov. 2nd, The New York Times wrote:Sean Connery, the actor who originated the role of James Bond, had dementia in the last few months of his life, his wife, Micheline Roquebrune, told The Daily Mail. Mr. Connery died this weekend at age 90 in the Bahamas.

Ms. Roquebrune, who was married to Mr. Connery for 45 years, said the actor “was not able to express himself” in the months leading up to his death. “It was no life for him,” she said. “At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful.”

Mr. Connery played the role of the beloved British secret agent in “Dr. No” (1962), “From Russia With Love” (1963), “Goldfinger” (1964), “Thunderball” (1965), “You Only Live Twice” (1967), “Diamonds Are Forever” (1971) and “Never Say Never Again” (1983).

Ms. Roquebrune, a Moroccan-French painter, married Mr. Connery in 1975. She told The Mail he was a “model of a man” and that life would “be very hard without him.”

“He had dementia, and it took its toll on him,” Ms. Roquebrune said. But, she added, “He got his final wish to slip away without any fuss.”

Dementia, which is a group of conditions characterized by memory loss and impaired judgment, is most commonly caused by Alzheimer’s disease. Although it affects mainly older people, it is not a normal part of aging.

About 50 million people have dementia, with approximately 10 million additional people developing the condition each year, according to the World Health Organization. The early stages often include forgetfulness and becoming disoriented in familiar places, which may progress to becoming lost at home, behavior changes and needing help with personal care. In the final stages of the disease, a person may have difficulty walking and recognizing family and friends.

After Mr. Connery’s death, a number of Bond actors past and present paid tribute to the titan of the silver screen. Daniel Craig, who has played James Bond since 2006, said in a statement on the 007 website on Saturday that Mr. Connery had wit and charm that “could be measured in megawatts” and that he had “helped create the modern blockbuster.”

“He will continue to influence actors and filmmakers alike for years to come,” Mr. Craig said. “My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”

George Lazenby, who played James Bond in “Her Majesty’s Secret Service” (1969), wrote on Instagram on Mr. Connery’s 90th birthday in August that the actor was not just “the all-time greatest 007,” but, he added in an Instagram post on Saturday, “a man after my own heart.”

“A great actor, a great man and underappreciated artist has left us,” Mr. Lazenby wrote.

I remember seeing "You Only Live Twice" in its first theatrical release. I was a Bond fan ever after. And of all the Bonds, anyone not named Sean Connery was just a pretender. Connery WAS James Bond. Never to be forgotten.

Rest in peace, 007.
