A.) I was raised in the shadow of a nuclear reactor and know it's perfectly safe.

B.) I thus find people's paranoia about it laughable and stupid.

C.) Lots of cheap energy and we get to shut the climate people up about Carbon Emissions.

No shit they lied. CEOS and businesses have a very noted trend of lying so they can get away with this kind of shit for short term profit. We need action now. Things like construction of nuclear plants and regulations of corporations. We don´t need to destroy peoples quality of life to begin making a difference. And climate change is very real and its not some future problem. Its already starting to have negative impacts by way of natural disasters. And if we continue sitting on our ass doing nothing then its only gonna get worse.

And anyway, not all carbon emissions come from power generation, so I doubt we'll be shutting up any time soon. :)

You can argue against the complete shutdown of private industry without insulting the other person's intelligence. Consider this an unofficial warning for flaming.

No shit? I didn't know this was breaking news.

Especially for GM, one of the most corrupt corporations of the 20th century. Their checkered history then and now is something truly to behold when you look into it. Yuck.

I suppose it's just a lesson in not making broad assumptions.

Although my disdain for large private corporations is in line with my Distributist outlook.

Distributism?

Yeah, it's broadly misunderstood/not well known.

I'm opposed to the death penalty, of course, but if there's one set of people who would probably deserve it, it would be all the omnicidal capitalists and their political allies who knew what was coming, who knew what it meant for the lives of regular people, and decided to spend the past few decades fighting tooth and nail for their economic death cult.

this is why a democratic capitalist society is so important. Without oversight to keep capitalism in check it will inevitably self-destruct to turn a profit.
