Sure it is. Climate change will kill us all before capitalism actually changes the way we run things.

Sorry, that was too pessimistic. Capitalism will kill all of the poor people before climate change is solved.

The only thing I can hope for is renewable energy prices to drop drastically. Even then greedy oil barons and shareholders will be gasping and with their last breath, trying to bring down solar energy before they and their companies go bankrupt.

Right, but you stated that a democratic capitalist society was needed to provide oversight.

GM/Ford did this fifty years ago and got away with it, in a democratic capitalist society. They've gotten little to no punishment, and the thing they covered up is still a problem today and there's a very real chance we don't successfully solve it.

That's not oversight. That's letting companies get away with destructive behaviour until it literally became impossible to ignore it.

Democracy and capitalism are good because they ultimately force powerful interests to act as the people (voters, in the case of democracy, or consumers, in the case of capitalism) want them to. The problem is that the people often don't know what's good for them.

I don't think the solution is to abolish democracy or capitalism. That would just bring back the olden days of powerful interests not even pretending to care about the people. And we can't exactly get rid of popular ignorance, either - it's not reasonable, probably not even possible, that the average voter/consumer be well-informed in every possible field of learning that may be of relevance in social issues.

A very sticky problem indeed.

no it isnt. Regulating capitalism and a democratically ellected government to oversee it being carried it is currently the best system humanity has come up with.

poverty and inequality are being eliminated faster than any other point in human history and the average life expectancy has improved dramatically. Capitalism along with Democracy has ushered in an age of rapid improvements to the human condition. Regulating capitalism as well as letting democracy choose who the people want to lead in spite of its shortcomings has been the most effective at self-correcting and empowering the common man above the elites despite what the vocal minority who abuse the system like Ford and GM do. Hopefully Ford and GM will get fined, sued so they can financially contribute to the problem they made. Hopefully the people will vote those to power the ones who would carry out their will. Hopefully renewable energies can gain more traction after this.
