Ultimately they're what's called political wedge points, issues devised to create separation between 'us' and 'them' for political gain. And they do easily blind people to rational thought given they're such easy 'values' to fall back on as the base of one's reasoning.
So the question is - do people vote for Trump because he represents their ideals better, or are they cherrypicking their own ideals to justify voting for Trump ?
Dunno, I mean the polarisation has genuinely caused me to question my own views, how selectively do I digest information.. it's kind of hard to wrap my head around people who profess to be christian to support such a guy.
