Arab boycott on France begins!

Postby Sanghyeok » Sun Oct 25, 2020 5:41 pm

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-54683738

As can be seen in above article, several Arab countries are beginning a boycott on French goods. This happened just shortly after Macron and Erdogan's relationship got spicy, when Erdogan said Macron "needed mental health treatment" and Macron replied by recalling the French ambassador for Turkey. Apparently the reason for their breakup was Macron supporting more secular reforms, which was firmly rejected by Erdogan. Obviously one side or another has to give in first, but who will it be?

So, what does everyone think will happen? Will France succumb under the pressure and go back on its reforms? Will France continue to be stubborn and hold on? Will this make NATO meetings more awkward? Please discuss.

How much French goods did the arab countries purchase?

I suspect the wealthy class of arab countries will still be purchasing things like wine.

Uhhhh... the boycott was more because France refused to talk about the Muslims who just got stabbed in front of their kids and is now essentially viewing all Muslims like criminals.

The Arab League is stanning for an overlord that'll cast them out once it no longer has use for them. Fuck this stupid boycott.

How so? Did France acknowledge the attacks and express condolences for the victims and condemn Islamophobia and I just didn’t see it?

It's especially hilarious when you consider that a lot of Arab countries themselves crackdown on extremist mosques. It's not like Egypt developed a pervasive police state in part to act against the Muslim Brotherhood, Wahhabists, and Salafists.

Seems this is boycott month around the world.

I say that because Arabia is boycotting Turkish imports. More exactly, Arabian businesses are boycotting Turkish imports. The government says they are not sponsoring it but some think they are. They say this boycott of Turkish goods will also spread to other Arab nations in the region.

France should avoid getting involved in the middle-east but Macron aspire to be the leader of a super power.
When it comes to the long-standing policy of laicitè i strongly support it and it is one of the main characterizations of being french and it's a reason to be proud of, they should definitely push harder against islamists.

As for the comments of Erdogan, he is definitely the most deranged among the two leaders, i wish him all the pain that earth can give to him.

I also support laicitè greatly- doesn't matter what religion you are, it shouldn't be too influential in any way in public society. It's not just an Islamist problem though, the far-right in France is also scary.

Laicitè isn't about Islam though, it's about religion's influence in general. Of course, I think France should use it more against certain Catholic groups...

I don’t see France banning nuns from wearing their veils.

Which is what France is doing. It's the same thing they did with Christianity. While I'm against French laïcité, Islam is being treated like how the Catholic Church was treated. That France is going to attempt to create a "French Islam" is not different than when the French state Gallified the Church within France.

Far-right terrorism is definitely a big and rising concern in Europe but not directly linked to religion.
When it comes to militant islamism, a majority of those are indoctrinated and organized within places of worship, often funded by foreign governments like that of Turkey.

Salafi mosques for example should be banned altogether as their core values are in total contraposition to the values of France, laicitè for instance and religiously motivated violence is totally legitimate to salafists.

I know that we have to always make sure we condemn both cultural extremism on one or the other side, so it is understood that we in no way wish to discriminate a certain group but we should also analyze the particular issues concerning islamism, its peculiar risks and methodology of operation.
