Quite. He’s a holy roller minister who eats church but won’t take care of his own mother, beating his chest with a Bible, but like believes gay people ought to be exterminated. Not converted, or approached with anything resembling compassion (not that I find forced conversations compassionate, mind you). He wants them exterminated. He can go fuck himself.

To be fair the Bible kinda condones exterminating gay people. Leviticus calls for the execution of gay men, because back then attitudes were alot more archaic than they are today.

Isn't there a Commandment about honoring one's mother and father?

Another approach would be to introduce him to the biggest toughest gay person you know. See what he wants to do about it. ;)

Let me clarify that my problem is not that he alleges he’s Christian. My problem is that he acts like a fuckmunch while also Bible thumping. He’s a hypocrite.

Oh, I definitely agree with you on the hypocrisy point. The advocacy of killing people is also what I was getting at.

It's considered one of the most important commandments about human relationships, too. The only commandment with a promise.

He's a pretty typical liberal, albeit a more progressive one. Ultimately we tend to agree a lot, with the exception being that he is far more moderate. My Grandparents are fairly political, with my grandma being quite similar to my dad, and my grandpa (I love him for it though) who is probably the closest to a socialist in my family, having expressed his support for many pro-labor causes in his youth. (although a lot of my family consider themselves socialists). The real outlier is my uncle, who was an ardent Berniecrat or socdem, but lately has dabbled with some more radical right ideas. I don't hate him for it, and I understand his concerns and misgivings, but still, hearing him blame "the marxists" for Critical Race Theory or whatever other thing is cringy. I honestly feel for the guy. He is legitimately upset with the direction society has gone, but he has unfortunately fallen for the words of conmen offering false solutions.

All in all, I support my family, and I am not ashamed to admit I've tried to convince them of my ideas.

Interesting, your family seems to be more left-leaning than mine in general. From what I can tell, members of my extended family range from Breitbart-reading Trump supporters to moderate Democrats (neoliberals, I'd guess).

As a general rule, yeah, they are. Of course, they tend to have more “culturally liberal” views than I do, and are more right wing than I am. Of course, I’m a mega commie, so that’s kind of a given. Sometimes they’ll say something strange, like how my Grandpa said that Trump has more in common with Marxists than conservatives because he doesn’t want to “conserve” the system but rather tear it down. Which is uncharacteristic of him, because in that same conversation, he talked about being sympathetic to Castro, because Cuba used to be an oligarchy full of organized crime. (His words, not mine. I don’t know the first thing about pre-Castroist Cuba).

In general, if I were to “rank” them in order from most in agreement to least:
0. Me, of course
1. My Grandpa
2. My Uncle
3. My Dad
4. My Grandma
5. My Uncle

That said though, I’m still very far from my family. I mean, they don’t even get their news from Pravda. :p

If I were to give them an ideology assignment:
Me: Marxist
Grandpa: Social Democrat/Socialist
Uncle: Social Democrat
Dad: Progressive Liberal
Grandma: Progressive Liberal
Uncle: Alt-Lite

And a Political Compass:
Me: Far-Left, mild Auth
Grandpa: Left, Lib
Uncle: Center-Left, Auth
Dad: Center-Left, mild Lib
Grandma: Center-Left, Lib

I listed my uncle twice because sometimes he acts like a socdem much of the time, but bring up anything controversial that “the left” did, and it becomes conspiracy central.

(In any case, I’m having too much fun talking about my family politics.)

My family trends liberal with some conservative ideas surfacing now and again, so being a leftist, heads button. I'm glad, though, things were never as bad as some.

I'm pretty sure my parents have always voted Democrat from what I remember. I'm not entirely sure where they lie, but I'd reckon they're both center left. Somehow, they raised a libright (me). I'd guess I'm probably the only libertarian in my family, but I'm not really sure. I don't want to know either, because I love my family, and don't want us torn up over something as stupid as politics.

Sounds like my mom. I still remember the time my mom expressed concern that I was having sex with my girlfriend after only dating her for three months and it made for a very awkward conversation that I didn't want to have.
