I know; it's just that the potential for misunderstanding is so huge, I think it would be best if we didn't joke about this one.

A long time ago I was given a 10-day ban out of the box over a misunderstanding, it caused a stir and was essentially reduced with input 'from the top'. However in the Moderator board discussion of all this DLN came across as extremely obstinate and officious even as she wasn't a Mod. Frankly I was surprised she was made a Mod, I can imagine she was certainly diligent but she didn't seem to have the flexibility required.

I remember when she was modded thinking to write 'this will not end well' but I didn't.

I'm sure she's a perfectly nice individual, just very much not Mod material.

I actually think I ran into him on a 4Chan thread years ago (the thread was about what parents would find if they went through their phone and he said a Nazi nation on NationStates and Elsa lewds), and he went into elaborate detail about how he pleasures himself to the thought of Elsa and being frozen during sex with her.

There are a few things that stand out to me.

1. A mod goes crazy and deletes a bunch of nations because George W. Bush was re-elected (2004)
2. The forums are moved from jolt (2009)
3. Karinzistan tries to incite a "revolution" against the mods and threatens to hack the site. He becomes DoS. (2012)
4. A user named 1,000 Cats starts a region to promote zoophilia and openly talks about how he rapes his cat. He becomes DoS. (2012)
5. A bunch of neo-nazis and fundamentalist Christians swarm the forums in an unusually intense NS summer. (2012)
6. Several forum members team up get Hippostania deated (2013)
7. The megathreads are introduced, marking the decline of NSG. (2015)
8. A mod named Dread Lady Narthica is fired from the mod force and is later deated. (2015 or 2016)
9. About three dozen users are kicked off the site after the mods discovered that they were engaged in sexual RPing using the telegram feature. Some of these users were underage, prompting the mods to get the police involved. (2016)
10. A pair of radical Islamists try to spread their crazy/hateful ideology on the forum with El-Amin advocating slavery, "Islamic rape", killing LGBT people, and voicing his support of various terrorist groups. (2019)
11: A bored middle school kid, often referred to as the Banana Kid, relentlessly spams the forums using various banana themed accounts, annoying the mods and amusing everyone else. He last appeared in June with a farewell post and hasn't come back since.(2019-2020)

Actually, as someone who was there at the time, #1 isn't true. Steph took issue with the way forum moderation was conducted after the Bush re-election (or, rather, election, since appointment by SCOTUS doesn't count), and in her opinion 'heated debate' was shut down too harshly. Her actions came after Yasser Arafat died, and her 'anything you can do, I can do better' approach was to shut down anything critical about him being posted on the forum. She'd wanted to leave anyway, and I guess that was her going down in a blaze of glory. I also think she deleted her own nation.

Theres not much I remember when I first started in January of 2014 (and watching my friend play on his nation since 2010 but sense then he CTE'd due to inactivity in 2011. Sad really.) but I do remember a cult region starting then failing after a raid on them.
I also remember how it was a tad bit messier back then as well as mods had to deal with alot (Still do).
Though all those memories are worth their weight in gold.
(P.S when weirded out by me saying I started in 2014, please note this is my fifth account I have and no I do not remember my old nations names.)
