Seriously though, even after this guy got tazed some dumbass ran on the field in last night's game. Philly fans are dumbasses. Taze every single one of them that runs on the field until they stop.

I just saw the video from the Philly announcers and I'm really sad that Harry Kalas is not around anymore. I would've LOVED to hear him call the play by play for this one.

Except that the guys working field security at most ballgames are private security hired by the ballclubs and not police officers.

Actually, tasers aren't really any more dangerous than walking down a staircase; unless the victim is high, very very drunk, or has a specific medical condition. Common misconception...

No. Couldn't they just tackle him rugby-style?

They tried. Apparently, tackling this guy was like nailing jello to the wall.

But this happens all the time in baseball. All of a sudden we're tasering 17-year-old kids? And because the cops couldn't catch him? I have to say, though, given the action shot of the kid and the cop I've seen, that cop couldn't catch me and I'm really old and slow.

From hearing news stories about American cops, it sounds like they consider use of force justified in just about every situation.

Clearly we need better security, but for the time being they're all fat, slow and can't tackle a 17 year old- so we'll just have to taser them.

If the kid didn't want to be tasered, maybe he shouldn't have run onto the field, or evaded security/the cops.

Indeed.

It seems the more obese US Policemen become, the more reliant they are on the Tazer. I recall seeing a "Most Dangerous Videos" programme (or something like that) where a Police Officer tazed some drunk woman stumbling by a major road, simply because he couldn't run waddle fast enough to catch up with her.

Why not? Use of a taser when someone is resisting arrest is valid. They had already attempted to apprehend him without it, so what were they supposed to do? Just say "Good show, you got away?"

Have you ever seen anyone get away with that sort of thing? Running back into the stands would have landed him in the arms of other cops, and eventually, like in a couple of minutes, he'd probably have given up. As I said, people do this all season long and don't get tased. I think the cops were embarrassed over not being able to catch him right away.

Walking down a staircase? So it doesn't inflict any pain at all? Plus walking down the stairs wont be able to kill you. Unless your stairs have mines on them.
