Police taser fan running onto baseball field

Postby Intestinal fluids » Tue May 04, 2010 10:21 am

During a Philadelphia Phillies baseball game, as occurs almost every day in a televised sporting event, a fan ran out onto the field. The police tasered him right on the field. Did the police do the right thing?

Consider the following:1. Fans have been running onto the field for at least the last 40 years and probably longer and no one has ever been significantly injured nor has the threat been more then a dumb practical joke. 2. It is still a crime. 3. Tasering is dangerous and should only be used as a last resort to prevent an obviously dangerous situation. 4. The guy deserves it.

It does seem a bit extreme. :eyebrow:

Absolutely. Not all fans running on the field are harmless. I had the misfortune of witnessing this one live.

(topic title) ... Why would anyone be a fan of police tasers?

Of course they acted properly. 'Running out on the field' has been done to death. The audience, by now, is not so much entertained as they are frustrated at the delay of game which, in an already slow as fuck sport, is trying on the nerves.

Throw in police with tasers and you have the equivalent of a 'kick to the junk' video on America's Funniest Home Videos, your interest is immediately restored.

They should have tasered him, and later put him in one of the snack stands, in an employee's outfit, and tell him that he works there.

No, they shouldn't have tasered him. It's always funnier when one of the athletes lays these idiots out. Though, I guess the police don't really want the fan to get to the athlete in the first place.

Eluding security as he was, damn right the officer was justified in tasing him. What if the guy ended up attacking a player?
Gun control is like trying to solve drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to own cars.

You're aware, of course, that this goes on all the time? especially in baseball, it seems.
