Attractiveness is way more than just physical beauty. She was probably very attractive: expressive eyes, luscious smile, sparkling wit, and the like...

Plot twist: She drooled at the mouth and her most common phrase was "I can't see my forehead." Her dad once said "damn, I kinda fucked up making kids with my own sister."

Completely fine. There were probably a million Egyptian women who looked like Gal Gadot.

For christ's sake I live in an area with a coptic church right down the street. Those folks are the descendants of the ancient Egyptians and they don't look any different from other Middle Eastern people. They aren't black if thats one some think.

I mean, just for being Levantine I think she’s fine for the role. At least they didn’t go for a white actress and chose to cast someone from the same side of the world.

She wasn't black if that's what people are angry about. Although certainly plenty of Egyptians were black and all sorts of colors if Egyptian art is anything to go by.

While I agree with you, there’s a significant change she was part Nubian. Though all Afro-centrists beware, because this almost certainly would barely affect her phenotype at all.

Why?

The Ancient Egyptians live on in their direct descendants: the Copts. If you want to know what they probably looked like, look no further than Coptic people.

By average Berber, I meant of the whole Berber population.
But indeed, most Tunisians and many Algerians and Moroccans look Italian. One of the reasons why they seem to get angry when I say Berbers are brown or talk about how Hausa people are related to Amazigh.

Why?

It would have been AT MOST one eighth or one twelfth, and it would likely not show up much in comparison to Coptic and Greek phenotypes.

Brown is a diverse color though. Both Javier Bardem and Barack Obama have brown colored skin but it isnt the same shade.

While Salma does look closer to what Cleopatra would have then Gabot, Nanatsu is right: casting a half Latina might just make things worse.

No worse than Gal playing her.

Shit, maybe they should have called the bluff of the Afrocentrists and had a Greek actress play her. And then make em look dumb when they say "thats not representative of cleopatra."

If you really wanna curveball everyone, have Lexy Liu play cleopatra. Watch the confusion as everyone tries to make sense of this madness.

Anyway, regardless of heritage, and acting chops, Hayek being cast for the role would cause some to probably vehemently object. As it is, at least the choice is in and around the right groups of people.

They're just ridiculous though. They ignore all the civilizations of africa whose members were the actual ancestors of many African Americans and instead go "nah Egypt is ours for the taking."

I assumed the ancient Egyptians went extinct till I had this Egyptian girl for a classmate in grade 9. She was coptic and just off the boat but was fluent in English and she told me "the copts are the descendants of the pharoahs."

Well probably not the Ptomlemy's since they all died, but it sounds cool nonetheless.

There aren't really that many famous Greek actresses that I can think of off the top of my head, so Gal Gadot is the next best thing given ancestry (if we are mandating this matters) and name recognition. If Shakira was an actress, maybe her. A young Monica Bellucci would have also been ace.
