I guess

I mean, you'll still find blonde and fair skinned Greeks. Just like how you'll find swarthy northern Europeans. Hell, look at Catherine Zeta-Jones; everyone thinks she's Spanish or Mexican but she's from fookin' Swansea.

I don’t know, I’d suggest Nia Vardalos. Although I’m ok with Gadot’s casting.

But the problem with this is that she was blond, but she wore a wig a lot of the time like most Egyptians did.

Why this is a feature of note is that that was actually a super rare trait for most Greeks at the time.

Actually a really good point can be drawn out of this...

A part of human psychology is to try and draw clear lines of recognition based on allegiances. It could come in the form of flags, assumed skin-color groups (Germans didn't used to be considered "white", but "swarthy"), even languages (Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian).

For instance, I have a strong preference for American English and think it more reformed; others feel differently, and we tend to draw lines based on that. I wonder if something similar is going on in trying to define Greeks as "white" or "Mediterranean" like with the Germans.

Strange how they depicted the Greeks tbh. The Greeks themselves aren't exactly pale, aside from this one guy I know but he's half German and Scottish.

That is an interesting part of the problem with ancient paintings.
If someone or a group of people is darker than you then said they were black. Likewise if they were fairer you said they were white.

Along comes a painter who has never seen the people in question and guess what shade gets pulled out ?

A roman painter who has never seen a Sicilian might paint him as coal black and a Eygtian painter who ahs never seen a Greek might paint them as snow white.

Ethnicity is more a nationalism thing, I guess, arguably more reasonable and rooted in reality. Like here, you have black nationalists, and they obviously dress (ethnically) different than, say, John James, a black man of my ethnicity/sharing my values. I tend to think of Liberians as being of my same Yankee heritage (thus the choice of flag on my profile). Ethnicity's pretty real to me, but I don't see why people of different ethnicities also can't live in peace if government is truly based on the will of the people.

Sadly, we have a lot of problems where people just won't leave other people alone. Thus all this ethnic/values conflict we see today.
The blood libels at home and abroad against the American people and our representative system of society need to end, and all sides and perspectives of our history need to be debated fairly and openly to find the truth.

Interesting Libyans were painted as fairly light.

I think they are indeed lighter-skinned than the Egyptians, perhaps the same tone as they depicted Asians (Levantines, the Hyksos who ruled Egypt before the New Kingdom period). Nowadays, even after centuries of interbreeding and gene mixing, Southern Europeans from Sicily and Northern Africans from Tunisia for example looks similar enough. The Ancient Egyptian skin tone is a rather tan hue, similar to what you would classify as Brown (think Hindi/Punjabi Indians, Central Americans, SE Asians e.g. Malay, Indonesian, etc.) They are certainly not black Africans (those are Nubians; they did ruled Egypt, I forgot which dynasty, but only in a short time period before being overthrown by a native lord), and they obviously weren't white to the degree of Greeks/Southern Italians either. Egyptians are their own, extremely unique and fascinating group of people.
