There was an Egyptian painting that showed a medium-skinned pharaoh fighting -- I'm not sure exactly where, perhaps Ethiopia -- but it was to commemorate a victory over a black nation in the region, and the other side's soldiers were portrayed as very, very black.

The Egyptians we see in paintings weren't necessarily dark from womb to tomb btw. A bunch of soldiers or farmers would probably get very tan since they spent almost all their waking hours outside, and since they were Mediterranean we can safely assume they tanned as good as George Michael or John Stamos or the feared Stelio Kontos of legend.
