Now, I'll clarify that we are talking about the two major parties in the United States: the Democrats and the Republicans. Tell us the biggest reason why you won't be voting for one of those parties (or why you wouldn't vote for them if you aren't part of the American electorate). I'll start the discussion by laying down my views.
I'm a Canadian, so I can't vote in the American Federal election, but if I was I wouldn't vote for the Republican Party. What is my biggest reason then? What is the one thing that I dislike most about the Republican Party? Is it their stance on abortion? Their subtle support for white supremacy? Their staunch resistance to Universal Healthcare? Trump?
No, no, no, and no. The Biggest Reason Why I Wouldn't vote for the Republican Party is this:
The above image is a paragraph from the current Republican Party Platform. I've read through the majority of this platform, and there's a lot of stuff in there that I agree with. For example, they support Puerto Rican statehood. They propose enforcing the border and making it easier for Legal Immigrants to enter the country. They want to audit the Pentagon. There's also a lot of stuff in there that I disagree with, like their stances on the Second Amendment and Abortion. But all this comes second to this one paragraph on page 37.
I am Bisexual. If I was living in the United States, I would be terrified to learn that one of the two major parties wants to take away my right to marry a man. Terrified to learn that they want to return to the centuries of Homophobia and Bigotry that we have almost moved on from. In this paragraph, they are telling me that they are a-ok with a restaurant refusing to serve me because of the fact that I am attracted to males. It is disgusting.
That is why I would never vote for the Republican Party as it is today.
