Western Civilization Debate Thread

Postby Debate Proxy 1 » Wed Oct 14, 2020 5:42 pm

The Japanese developed capitalism natively. The Western Europeans do not have a monopoly on the knowledge-based organization of society. There is, arguably, also a uniquely American form of knowledge-based society.

Native America isn't considered a part of Western Civilization, and it is certainly not part of the Eastern.

Conflicts between republics notwithstanding, our form of society more closely resembles the Cherokee one than any other. This began to change, unfortunately, when Frederick Jackson Turner, author of the 1893 Frontier Thesis, remarked in 1921 on "the increasing resemblances and connections between the Old World and the New".

Western Civilizationism is hostile to the very idea of American Exceptionalism, as it implies that American Civilization is not truly exceptional, or its own unique civilization. Its practical effect: to advocate alliance with foreign aristocrats and tyrants, and to push European-style regulations upon our guns and commerce.

Of what value is alliance with aristocracy to us?

What was Native America? It had neither taxes, nor regulations against business, nor gun-control laws. No bureaucracy existed natively that could suppress free trade. These were the values that these United States were founded upon.

According to Thomas Jefferson: "What, in short, is the whole system of Europe towards America but an atrocious and insulting tyranny? One hemisphere of the earth, separated from the other by wide seas on both sides, having a different system of interests flowing from different climates, different soils, different productions, different modes of existence, and its own local relations and duties, is made subservient to all the petty interests of the other, to their laws, their regulations, their passions and wars."

According to Paine: "[I]t is nevertheless true, that a great portion of mankind, in what are called civilised countries, are in a state of poverty and wretchedness, far below the condition of an Indian. I speak not of one country, but of all.[...] All the European governments (France now excepted) are constructed not on the principle of universal civilisation, but on the reverse of it."

Such patriots as Jefferson and Paine believed in American Exceptionalism... and had in reality opposed the spread of Western Civilization. Another helpful Paine quote is that "all men ought to live as the Indians"... a very explicit rejection of Western Civilization. This foreign, European civilization, brought by generations of ill-assimilated coastal immigrants importing their European superstitions, like in the days of the British, was imposed by violence upon people such as the Indians who previously governed themselves, involving countless constitutional rights violations in the process. The Indians had a moral right to choose their civilization, as do I in any free society today.

Isn't it time that, instead of being entangled with foreign aristocracies, that we put America first and defend our exceptional civilization, so high above the condition of Europe?

British colonialism, that most unholy of all alliances, is a crime. The European Union is a crime as well, flowing from the corrupt system and basis of that very same civilization.

I, for one, share Jefferson's view that the system of Europe is the source of all our problems. Is it too late to speak of ours as the leading "Central Civilization", if the native liberty is neither east nor west, and our true friends pan-American, whose whole liberty is under threat by Western Civilization and all the ill-assimilated coastal immigrants bringing their tyrannical practices over here?

I, for one, am tired of watching foreign lobbyists and importers having more say in our Government than the American people do.

I'm tired of seeing my country oppressed by all these European-style regulations that ill-assimilated immigrants who openly despise our country bring to us.
The blood libels at home and abroad against the American people and our representative system of society need to end, and all sides and perspectives of our history need to be debated fairly and openly to find the truth.

If you listen very carefully, you can hear the sound of Jefferson rolling in his mausoleum at the implication that the US was not part of a 'Western' civilizational tradition.

*the rattle of chains and the snapping of the lock drowns out the sound of Thomas Jefferson's rumbling* The OP here is basically just an anti-Europe screed, with nothing really to be "debated." Do not re-post.
