I think it was COVID-19 that ultimately ruined Trump’s low-tax economic plan. It is tempting to lower taxes to attract investment, until one realises that the money for the budget (especially for his wall plan) has to come from somewhere, and if foreign nations like Mexico will not pay for it, then who will?

Looking ahead, I think Donald Trump is going to really invest in his make-believe alternative universe where he is still the president and he is worshipped by nearly everyone… wait a minute, that is becoming like CWCville in the Sonichu webcomic, where its author believes that the city actually exists, and the author is their all-powerful mayor who is only challenged by pre-determined enemies that they can defeat in the most pedestrian ways.

2 to 3 percent growth is not a boom. We really should stop using the word to mean "nearest thing to a boom we're likely to see in our lifetimes" because the downsides of hardly ever having recessions any more, are that any recessions will be a thundering avalanche of shit. And there aren't any booms.

It's good, really. Recessions are particularly bad for the poor, so of course booms are particularly good for the rich. To hell with booms.

Aside from the frustration that the economic recovery as usual worked better for those better off than those not, the whole idea of the recovery was not to rely on booms and their inevitable busts but instead build a steady and sustainable growth and it worked, being robust enough to continue through Obama's terms and well into Trumps where he kept doing his best to dismantle it. It'd be great if we could keep the robustness and find a way for it to work for those at the bottom as a priority and not an after thought.

Why "the economy" should grow any faster than population, I've never understood. Maybe it's so each individual gets a little richer than the year before, and feels good about that. But that begs the question, wouldn't it be far better to have zero economic growth (by population) and make most of the population significantly happier every year, at the expense of the rich (who will barely notice the difference)? Economic growth society-wide is very plainly failing to make poor people or even lower-middle-class people any richer or happier.

Robust economy with no recessions, whatever the GDP growth, is easy to compromise on.

I mean, I'm a big fan of sustainability and inclusivety over short term gains. I'd take that over watching Bezos and Musk drag race over the worlds richest douchenozzle.

Then again, his lawyer explicitly called to hang Pence (and the Magats brought a gallows) - and his GOP cronies shared things like these online:

Some quick maffs suggests that we have written over 240,000 posts on this wretched human being and his disastrous adventure in running a country. I would like to say good riddance, but we are far from rid of Donald John Trump.

The fact that there won't be a Biden thread is such an indication that we no longer have a president that makes everything about him.

Maybe this is a good thing, we won't have to split our hairs or mellow in cynicism every time the President does something anymore.

Man, nothing really puts Trump in context like running clips of inauguration speeches in a row starting at Kennedy. Peace, unity, Americans regardless, hope, the future...CARNAGE

They opened Morning Joe doing just that. Really illustrated what an aberrant POTUS Trump was from the get go.

I'm sure he'll break into a Grandpa Simpson story at some point that will suck up all the oxygen for a bit.

Joe has spent the time since looking at the live feed going, "That guy shouldn't be here. This guy sure has a lot of fucking balls to show his face. Super fuck that guy..." Which has been kind of entertaining.
