Honestly this is the problem we run into. First, that is a subjective philosophical judgement. I don't agree with it. I think people can be good and still have bad views on one issue or another. But more importantly, I think this attitude leads to a sort of "original sin" mentality, where people whip themselves in order to get absolved from supposed racism/sexism/homophobia/xenophobia because either they or their ancestors are guilty of some "naughty thoughts". it does not lead to a mentally healthy viewpoint.

I personally think we all get born morally neutral (unless you consume your twin in the womb, then you're double neutral), and become good or bad people over time. People change. Someone can be a horrible person as a child and grow up to be a saint (not literally, the only true saint is Keanu Reeves), and vice versa.

I mean can you? Statues and monuments are inherently glorifications of whatever their built after or dedicated to. Which can be problematic when dealing with people like many of the founding fathers, who while in many ways may have been products of their time, still did fucked up shit and had some terrible ideas that really should not be glorified. Maybe dont take them down but perhaps add some alterations to make that clear.
