Dang. So you're trapped down here, too. Makes living underground a solid option.

Pets tend to disappear and reappear dead and in pieces. There’s a group of people in town that steals pets and brutalizes them. The posited reason is ghastly. Which is why the police advises to keep pets indoors. And if your pet is black or grey even more so. In fact, at certain times of the year, the humane society will not allow black cats and dogs to be adopted. I’ll let you interpret why on your own.

I am trapped too. So no recourse but to start digging!

What the fuck kinda cult is hanging around you area? And how have they not been caught yet?

Both valid questions I have no answer to. And I’ve been here a decade. I think some are caught but others step in to continue doing this.

Not officially, apparently. But local gossip seems to veer towards cultish behavior. That’s what I’ve been told by some of my neighbors.

Yeah, I'd already be digging, but with some bad luck, the authorities might cause trouble, for getting a construction approval for a second basement may take quite a couple of years around these parts.

Even non black or grey pets disappear and reappear dead. It’s pretty sad. Mine’s a Black and tan tabby and I still don’t let her roam. It’s rather sad that some people can be that cruel to pets.

Of course, I don’t let her roam too because of speeding cars and several animals around here carry nasty diseases so I’d rather not have my cat exposed to any of that.

Look, as long as I skirt the earth’s core, we’ll be fine.

It's truly horrible. While there are people who poison pets in here as well, we've been lucky so far (and mine's nine years old ...!), and hopefully, it remains like this. He might not go too far, and other neighbors have cats, too, but unless proven wrong, I'd consider this place safe for cats.

And yeah, I also know places that aren't safe. My ex-girlfriend, who had two cats, lived in a big city, close to a highly frequented road, including a tram, so her cats couldn't be let out, which is understandable.

There are two things you're clearly underestimating - firstly, earth core's heat, and secondly, German bureaucracy.

Two ways to look at it
1. This is a reason to expand the death penalty, folks who torture animals got no reason to live.

Or

There are some serious mental health issues where you are, maybe just put something into the drinking water.

They really aren't - the mother of a friend of mine once talked to a bus driver who was new around here and just installing a new surveillance camera. He asked, "What do I need a cam for in a place like this, where nothing ever happens?!" Her response, "Oh, you should be near the station around 9:30PM, when youngsters gather and start beating up random people. Oh, and don't get me started on the two deadmen whose body parts have been scattered all over the nearby forest a few years back!"
Him: "Okay, I'll better install the camera, I guess ..."

Oh. Yeah, my Mandarin isn't that good, either ...
