I chose two recent Philosophers mainly because I believe the two of them have attracted the bulk of the controversy as far as contemporary scholarship on the specific subject is concerned.

Going further back though, the Ancient Hellenes don't seem to attract nearly the same controversy and passion as some of the more modern Continental Philosophers have.

I think it's easier for people to be more controversial the closer it gets to out time, simply because there is more media and it's just closer to us.
