That's actually not true. Firearms that could be discharged multiple times without reloading were available at the time the 2nd Amendment was conceived. Revolvers came into wide use in the decades immediately following the ratification of the Constitution as well, less than a generation after the Founders. Some men who began their political careers in the 1790s would have been at the height of their power by that time. There were also cannons.
