Not to minimize his inexcusable behavior, but hasn't he already essentially served a year's suspension? And now he has six games on top of that. In effect, as it stands, it's a 22 game suspension out of this debacle. We can debate if that's enough. But I think it is a tad disingenuous to act as if last season didn't happen.

Never really thought about the Watson situation that way. You’re right that effectively he was suspended with the combination of demanding a trade and then the allegations. Texans knew it wasn’t good for them to have him on the field for PR or trade leverage purposes.

That said - it is not the NFL’s responsibility to preserve his athletic prime and it’s a privilege to play in the league, not a right. At a bare minimum his being on the field is going to cost the league money, and while I think the moral implications are weightier, that itself should mean this guy never plays again. For the Browns individually, (as well as the Falcons, Saints, and Panthers who were all involved in trade discussions) they believed his talent was enough for them to overlook the bad press. For the league as a whole though it definitely isn’t.

NFL teams are not particularly well known for caring about legal baggage. Watson forfeits his pay for the time he's suspended. The only real negative effects on the Browns are a minor reputation hit, and having to use their backup QB for the duration of Watson's suspension.

I’m a Titans fan first and foremost. Browns can rot for all I care now tbh. Every member of that front office from the coaching staff to the ownership had to sign off on that move.
