2007: Prince
2008: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
2009: Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band
2010: The Who

Edit to add: Of course, this person is asking for an even bigger throwback than any of those acts.

That was less throwing a bone, and more the networks picking the safe options after Janet Jackson flashed her booby.

I just want to see a country act do the halftime show.

Unrelated, but related to Super Bowl week - Kirk Cousins may not be the best QB, but he's definitely a solid human being, and so are the McCourty brothers and Zack Ertz:

He's guaranteed to get viewers. Other country singers would only impress the fans of one of one of the seventeen thousand subgenres of country music.

I think what's problematic is that country music is so polarizing. There's a solid number of folks that enjoy it (and perhaps swear by it), but there's also a lot of people who despise it with surprising intensity. Clearly they're never going to please everyone, but a generic pop singer/group is just a safer choice than a country singer.

It would kill folks in the Bills Mafia to lose to Brady in the SB and end up 0-5 which would be worst all-time in super bowls. A lot of hard core long time Bills fans would never get over it bc of the Brady/Pats history with the Bills.

Trust me on this.

Buffalo mercifully did not take this deadly bullet. The football gods smiled down upon the Bills and spared them the humiliation. It was best for the KC Chiefs to take that wound instead. It'll heal quicker for them.

Hard losses in Super Bowls can be devastating. The Baltimore Colts lost SB 3 to the Jets 16-7, becoming the first NFL team to lose a SB to an AFL opponent. That loss triggered a whole series of events that eventually led to the Colts moving to Indy in 1984.

The Bills had a very fine season this year. Bills fans should be happy with that for now. The future is very promising for them.

Trust me as a Bills Mafia member for all my life, I would rather lose in the SB than in the AFC Championship, even if it meant against Brady. We'd beat the best AFC team, the reigning SB Champs, and be back next year to smack down any team standing in our way.

I'd probably think that now and then deeply regret it so you're probably right

Scary part is I'm okay with that...

That's kind of the point, of course the NFL is going to gear towards a younger audience, they've been doing it for about a decade with more recent pop artists performing, that's nothing new and frankly that's not a bad thing. The days of the old guard from rock performing are long gone, really the only act I can possibly see doing it might be AC/DC, but that's it. And tbh, the whole, "geared towards young audiences" with pop acts, it clearly works since they have higher ratings than previous SBs,. And no GVH, we won't get country because that is just as if not more polarizing than a pop/rock act performing, hell probably even worse than a rap/hip-hop act performing. It also wouldn't work because the halftime show gears itself as "the biggest party of the year" and it's not necessarily a party with country most people who aren't over 50 haven't heard of.

Johnny wasn't that old in the 1970s or 80s. He was born in '32. Now, Carol Channing was old, born in 1921.
My Dad liked marching bands. He played drums in one once. He loved those first few halftime shows. He and mom were at SB 18 in 1984 down in Tampa at the old stadium (Big Sombrero). Mom and Dad liked the movies so that halftime pleased them as well. Sorry to say they have both passed on now but my folks would probably say they aren't missing much when it comes to recent halftime shows.

Honestly I am not a fan of the superbowl. I like football. I dont like the spectitcal. Championship Sunday is my favorite game day. In normal times I watch the championship games with two other friends who like football. Superbowl Sunday is usually a party with wives, kids, etc. Chatting, drinking ...

I'm with ya on that, it's a better experience. Otherwise the hype and BS is way too long, contrived and over the top. All i really wanna see is a good football game.
