Seriously, this is soooo out of left-field and calling for desaster. Why even position themselves on the issue? Did someone at McD HQ seriously think this would improve their PR and sales in any way?

I wouldnt be surprised if whoever the local heads of Micky Dicks are decided to do it themselves and didnt bother telling the big cheese back home.

Not only has Armenia occupied McDonalds, they've also completed their annexation of Burger King and US special forces are fighting hard to retake it.

I'd guess that too. In their eyes the Azeri ownership of Karabakh is so obvious that no one could possibly have a problem with it unless they're an Armenian spy, so they didn't bother telling central office about it.

You do know its the local Azerbaijani franchisees of both fast food restaurants.

Approximately 93% Of McDonald's restaurants worldwide are owned and operated by independent local business owners.

Almost 100 percent of Burger King® restaurants are owned and operated by independent franchisees, many of them family-owned operations

It depends on where the other side positions it's missile launchers. You can position a couple of BM-21 Grads inside a city, target a military base, and then cry "they're killing civilians!" when the retaliation comes.

These things happen in war.

Which is why wars shouldn't generally happen. But of course, Azerbaijan just has to occupy some hillsides.

Do not expect Russia to intervene, unless the fighting goes into Armenia proper (in its international recognized borders).

“It is deeply regrettable that the hostilities continue, but they are not taking place on Armenian territory,” Putin said.”
“Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was more explicit, saying Russia's obligations under the CSTO "do not extend to Karabakh."
https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2020/10/ ... ays-a71687

Basically because Russia has said Armenia will only be protected in its internationally recognized borders, and the disputed territory is not part of Armenia, Russia has basically made the disputed areas fair game for Azerbaijan.

In other news, even Armenian sources have acknowledged that Azerbaijan has reached the outskirts of Shusha.
Basically if Azerbaijan takes Shusha, then the main road between Armenia proper and the disputed territories will be closed. If Azerbaijan takes it, it will be a decisive victory.
Basically the situation is really bad for Armenia.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.france ... -of-shusha

Short of Russian or Iranian intervention, neither which seem forthcoming, Armenia has to launch a major counterattack to retake the Aras valley, which also seems unlikely. Or it is screwed.
This has become a grinding war of attrition, which Azerbaijan with its much greater population, economy, natural resources and superior military equipment is likely to win.

If you are outnumbered you need to hit hard and fast, win early, or you are at a major disadvantage.

Hundreds if not thousands slaughtered, their towns bombed and their churches toppled.
