The NFA is unconstitutional too, and yet ATF will still put me in the no-no box if I put a giggle switch on my boom stick.

Its not a cop out answer. Its how a fair democracy works. If you allow people to be barred from running because of ideology or beliefs your leaving the door wide open for abuse and very quickly you don't have much of a democracy.

No, a fair democracy works when people don't have to literally fear for their lives if they lose an election.

And how do we determine what is violation of human rights? Such an amendment would be antithetical to democracy and would be unable to reach the two thirds majority needed to pass much less at the state level. I've proposed this idea the last time it came up in here to people I know and every single one of them thought it was a terrible idea.

Sorry to interupt....whatever it is you guys are talking about that isn't the current election with some current election news, but...

...What the hell are Republicans doing with all their money?
Lindsey Graham started the summer with more cash in the bank than any Republican senator other than Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. But now he’s begging for money.

Twice on Thursday, Graham, chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, went on Fox News Channel and implored viewers to donate to his campaign against Democrat Jaime Harrison in South Carolina, a closer-than-expected contest that Republicans need to win to protect their majority.

“I’m getting overwhelmed,” Graham told conservative talk-show host Sean Hannity Thursday night. “LindseyGraham.com. Help me. They’re killing me, money-wise. Help me. You helped me last week — help me again. LindseyGraham.com.”

These are the guys who are supposed to be the economy party and this year they can't even manage an election fund.

I expect Graham will still win regardless, but holy hell. How long have you been in this seat? Learn to manage your shit, dude.

EDIT: Added the next paragraph because...because.

"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

This is a beautiful fantasy you live in, but wherein we're suggesting politicians who want groups of people dead should not be able to run and Lumen is suggesting they should, the scale is definitely not even. One is an absurd idea and the other would make democracy better for millions of people who would have one less reason to fear for their lives.

I think what GMS is saying is that the constitutionality of a belief based barrier to entry is not factually decided. Lumen says it would be unconstitutional, but I don't believe him, I think it would be constitutionally permitted, but Lumen doesn't believe me.

This person running for senate in Delaware is a Qanon supporter and flat earther. Therefore she is anti science. Ms Witzke got 56 percent of the vote in the primary. The board of elections should have barred her from running or invalided her victory?

Ironically, pure democracy with no restrictions often leads to the destruction of democracy itself.

I imagine a ton of it is being shoveled into Trump's campaign. I mean, they had advertising in New Mexico and Oregon out of the misguided belief that they could somehow flip it. Coupled with the fact that WinRed is nowhere as prevalent as ActBlue and that Trump has seemingly refused to use his own money, you got cash problem.

I remember, an election where Republican North Carolina Senator Jesse Helms, was said to be considerably behind on the Polls, and on election night, he won by a landslide. The black CNN commentator was clearly seen reluctant to call the race for Jesse Helms, after all the networks had called the race for Jesse Helms, eventually he had no choice but to do so, but by his reactions on camera, on TV, you could tell he did not want to say so. Proving pre election polls can be wrong.

Polling pre-2000s was notoriously off at times, due to the lack of communication and access. Not to mention Jesse Helms was insanely racist and cut some pretty racist ads (Hands, anyone?)

She's strongly pro life and called her opponent Chris Coons a satanist. By the standard you set shed be barred from running. The Republicans of Delaware liked what they heard from her. Why shouldnt they be able to have the candidate they want? Its now up to the people of Delaware as a whole to decide if they want this crazy person in office.

I expect Graham will still win regardless, but holy hell. How long have you been in this seat? Learn to manage your shit, dude.

Nothing in Cannot Think of a Name's post mentioned polling. It did, however, mention campaign funding.
