Almost certainly not, no. They'd still be NFA items and it's standard procedure to tell newbies to avoid using these things for self defense because even if it's justified they're scary to the common folk and a DA will happily try to crucify you for it. There's one a handful of times it's ever happened.

The thugs already have them. As stated previously, Hughes does nothing to stop illegal MG's, it just says you can't legally own one made after a specific date because reasons.

Poll workers tend to skew heavily towards senior citizens. Many are not working this year to the virus but several hundred thousand millennials and generation z have stepped up to take their place. A disaster of thousands of polling places being closed due to not having enough staff could be avoided.

Well that's nice. "Don't use a machine-gun for self defense because people don't like it and you could get in trouble with the law".

One reason would be better than both of those together: "Don't use a machine-gun for self-defense because you might hit someone you weren't aiming at". If they laugh or otherwise express disdain for the lives of innocents ... don't sell them the gun.

Assuming that the purchasers of cheaper machine-guns would develop the skill and have the responsibility which CURRENT owners have, would be a ludicrous assumption. There will be idiots whose first gun is a machine-gun and they plan to use it for everything, target shooting, hunting, self-defense, poncing around the street with it because it makes them look hard ... and because full auto uses so much ammo they won't practice that much at a range. One day someone tries to break down their door so they shoot them through the door, but they're in a mad panic because nothing like this has ever happened to them before. They lose their balance and put twenty bullets through the ceiling, into someone else's apartment. Unless it was the cops outside, they're probably going to get away with it, because it was just an accident.

Full auto is much more dangerous than select fire, in the hands of an amateur. I'm happy with the current level of restriction, except manufacture or import should be banned. Tracking of machine-guns and artificial scarcity driving up the price seems to have been effective in keeping them out of the hands of violent criminals and terrorists. As long as that remains the case there's no need to ban them completely or try to remove them from legal owners.

I am always concerned, that even criminals on the prohibited persons list can buy a gun. It is far too easy to buy a gun without taking a background check, and anyone who says otherwise must explain why "criminals will always have guns".

Closing that loophole requires gun owners to check the register themselves before selling (or gifting) the gun to anyone, and checking they did that requires them to notify government of the sale (or gift) and the identity of the buyer. I can see how gun owners will resent that, but at least it's not a ban on selling (or gifting) at all, which would require outright gun licensing. Perhaps private sales could be 'facilitated' by a licensed gun shop: seller comes in with the gun, buyer comes in, shop checks buyers ID and does the background check, gun is transferred for money, then only the records kept regularly in a gun shop sale need to be kept. Shop could charge a fee.

Let's not hold out false hope that background checks for all buyers would stop guns getting into the hands of criminals. Firstly, the gun criminal may have a clean police record up to the moment they commit murder, armed holdup, etc. Gun crime doesn't always follow the trajectory of small crimes escalating to larger ones, and murders in "crimes of passion" in particular have no legal warning signs (social workers could probably see them coming, but can't very well do their job if they're known as a snitch). And secondly, there will always be a supply of stolen guns ... though with competition from private sales removed, the price of a stolen gun will be much higher.

My state already have the exact system you described in your post, it's routinely ignored to the point of ineffectiveness. I doubt it would be more effective given a jurisdiction with even less respect for laws of that sort.

He's killing his chances in the election. Most obviously with moderate Republicans and undecideds. But also I think with his base: some of them just won't bother voting because they believe the Big Man is going to fix the election. With a touch of "owning the libs" again: haha you can't beat Trump even with twelve million illegal immigrants on your side!

True but it's Trump. If I was Biden and trump refused to vacate the house, I'd deploy a heavily armed tactical unit to fire tear gas and flashbangs in there and drag that dumbass cough and crying out of the building along with the rest of his henchmen. I would want his last moments in the whitehouse to be ones of humiliation. Make an example out of him.
