That sounds bad. How are we supposed to quote opinions from before the day, to make insightful replies like "I told you so!" ..?

Maybe locking the next thread early (at 300 pages or whatever) would ensure some continuity over Election Day, for the thread after that?

Well, last time around, the Mods just made a special final thread because they figured it would take the full 500 pages just for the few days from the election onward.

I don't think there's any technical reason for the 500 page limit. The longer the thread the worse, theoretically, but in practice posters hardly ever read the thread from the start when they're new to it, or quote early posts a hundred pages later. As I understand it, the Mods picked 500 because it seemed more than generous and was a round number.

Probably the only bad thing about letting a thread run to 1000 instead of 500 would be the precedent it would set.

Apparently Gaia Online uses a version of phpBB which they have modified up the wazoo. So it's not proof of anything that they had a thread about making a million page thread. Which succeeded. It's just funny.

Used to be threads ran forever.

Then it was 1000 pages.

Then it was 500.

There may have been a period of 5000 pages... certainly TET did hit page 5000 way back when (not sure if this was a limit or just where they eventually made a new thread??). In any case, you can see the development by looking at old TETs. The first one was chunked from an old bigger thread... still 1000 pages long. That continues until Part 7 which is 618 pages, which was when they made TET 2. And TET 2 was cut down at 1000, as was TET 3... but TET 4? Only allowed 500 and it's been that way ever since. People were confused in TET 4.

EDIT: I think TET topped out at 5618 pages, give or take.

Climate Change last is interesting. But I'm quite annoyed that Immigration hasn't been on the agenda for either debate: it's barely going to get a mention in the heated category of "Racial Issues" but it should be talked about. It was the major plank of Trump's election and until this year it was debated a lot.

How does Biden bring up that skilled worker visas take jobs off college graduates in the US, while farmers are crying out for more low-skilled labor? Or the US being a meaner and less worthy world citizen by taking fewer refugees or locking up asylum seekers in bad conditions.

It's neither necessary nor desirable to mention race to get those issues on the table. One is on the subject of jobs. The other is on the subject of human rights. There really should be a separate Immigration debate.

He doesn’t, because the wrong answer will cost him a big chunk of his base. Hence why this issue is being ignored.

Honestly it’s just going to be another shouting match, so I don’t see why they’re so worried about the topics.
