It has nothing to do with hating people, it has everything to do with economics and property value, not something I would expect you to grasp.[/quote]

That was a needless ad hominem, and I now see you are not interested in serious debate. You are now free to leave this thread.

The details of the above post are subject to leftist infighting.

I officially endorse Fivey Fox for president of the United States.

Low income housing being forced into middle/high income housing decreasing the housing value, it's basic economics.

"low income housing is great" not if you drop it in the middle of a suburb.

The value of a house only matters if you sell it.

So presumably your whining about what's happening to old people's housing values is about your inheritance?

Frankly, the older population in America is a wreck and I don't even think they know what they are looking at half the time.

In contrast, political talk shows, particularly conservative talk programs, have older audiences. Large majorities of the regular viewers of Sean Hannity (66%) and The O’ Reilly Factor (64%) are 50 and older. Just 43% of all Americans are 50 and older. And while just 17% of the public is 65 and older, 42% of regular Hannity viewers and 40% of regular O’Reilly viewers are in that age category.

Liberal talk show audiences also skew older, but not as dramatically. Still, among regular Hardball watchers, 59% are 50 or older, and 28% are at least 65. Among regular Rachel Maddow viewers, 57% are 50 or older and 25% are at least 65.

CNN over 50 - 43%
FOX over 50 - 53%

Damn reality..

But they're only confused and senile when they don't agree with the right. If they're on Trump's side they're wise elders you have to respect.

It damn well should be. America is way too fucked up for anyone to pretend that we can have a civil, respectful election, there is too much on the line.

Actually, he wasn't.

Sure, if you follow the Sanders Spam you might believe that, but Biden did great among older voters (The largest voting block) and pretty well among adults 35-50.

...I mean, he kinda did. That doesn't mean it was "rigged" or illegal, but it's pretty clear that party elites consolidated around a candidate they felt was more electable and less extreme and that this consolidation played a significant role in his subsequent capture of the nomination. Biden was getting thumped until Clyburn stepped in to help in South Carolina and Obama subsequently maneuvered behind the scenes to get people to drop out and endorse him, and this consolidation behind him played a significant role in stopping what had looked like was going to be the conclusion until that point- Bernie taking the nomination with a plurality of votes.

I can't really condemn it, since that's basically how parties are supposed to behave and what they're designed to do. Part of the reason we think it's weird is simply because the GOP, an outlier in so many other ways as well, failed to do the same to stop Trump, but denying that it happened is ahistorical nonsense more rooted in a desire to attribute a broader mandate or greater charisma to Biden than he actually has. However, I don't think it's unreasonable for people who would've preferred a more left-wing candidate to be quite frustrated that the party elites decided that a moderate was a safer bet (which is in fact a debatable proposition).

Older voters do rely more on traditional media and have less Internet literacy to discern between fact and fiction on social media. It's not being edgy, it's just commenting on facts in an irritated way. Older voters, whether we're talking about Silent Generation, Boomers, Gen X- they grew up in a very different political and economic climate (and a different physical climate, given that most of humanity's carbon emissions have come since 1945), and certainly the information ecosystem has changed beyond anyone's wildest imaginings from when they were young. Yes, there are also ignorant young people, but America's older generations do seem to be a bit out of touch with the catastrophe unfolding in the political system they've placidly presided over their whole lives (as can be illustrated far more vividly by the growth of the right-wing misinformation vortex and its reliance on older people to power TV ratings and Facebook engagement).

I think he's talking about older Democrats? Since the conversation appears to have started about the Democratic primary? And the implication seems more to be that older Democrats are milquetoast liberals obsessed with civility and electability to the detriment of political reality, rather than that they're "leftists" in any meaningful sense.

And if I'm wrong, then that's what I'm talking about at any rate. :p

Older voters like Biden, the polls say.

It's interesting who they hated-less before though. Obama did almost as badly against Romney as against McCain (older voters you'd expect to like McCain). I don't think it's a stretch to say there's racist bias in the oldster vote.
But they didn't like George Bush much at all (against Kerry), nor Trump the first time. Which I will interpret as being good judges of character!
