He's viewed by the Evangelicals as a transactional political figure. He gives them the judges they wish and he gets the adulation. But once the court is 6-3 he decomes Captain Dunsel and is discarded.
I'm not sure about that. A party or even a sizable amount of a party willing to discard him doesn't pull the kind of stunts they did at the convention.

That was before RBG died. The GOP has marched lock step since about 5 years after Roe in pursuit of the court. Donny is has been their useful idiot. Once the deed is done they'll need someone just like Pence. Think about it.

They did it precisely for this moment. Like I said, they've been playing the long game on SCOTUS for decades now, and this is what they were waiting for: A hard-right court that can ensure the nation doesn't stray from the path of firm moral guidance that they wish to deliver.
Exactly correct and they're willing to lay down their political lives, that is, all... but for Donald Trump. I don't know if he fully realizes what he's unleashed.

I have thought about it, and personality cults don't break easily unless someone high inside it is wielding the hammer. Remember, there's still a chance Trump will win this year. Then what happens to them when they've been completely subjugated by the populist right?
