Personally I'm pro-freedom of speech, with the only exclusions being death threats and direct encouragement to harm others (not 'oh but that will encourage harm' stuff, only 'go and kill this guy' sort of stuff).

I'm a huge fan of bigots receiving non-legal punishment for their shit though, since people have the freedom to respond to speech however they please, within the law.

I think what Loben is getting at might be a good point; rather than legislating something to deal with problems of hate speech and stuff like that, when such legislation inherently presents an issue of whether or not the government should get into that sphere, we should really just try to be better fucking people. Teaching our kids not to be asses to folks because their skin tone is best represented with a different hex code than our own might be a start.

I say it is more important that parents raise their (potentially vulnerable) child to be capable of sticking up for themselves, rather than relying on society to deal with t for them. Sure, society should cut back at bullying and hate speech as much as it reasonably can, but society will not always stop it.
Children should learn to fight when necessary and furthermore have the courage to do so as well-especially if the child is potentially vulnerable to bullying.
