Though it's not that big of a deal, since Washington, the US capital city, is officially called the District of Columbia and most people just say DC and its proposed state name is the Douglass Commonwealth.

There is a movement to split Oregon, (Maybe California), Washington, Idaho, British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Alaska to create the Republic of Cascadia.
Though the only two states I can think of that can leave legally from the US is Oregon because before it was official it had a Provisional Government for decades. And Texas

Kathol Rift wrote:No, it shouldn’t be renamed. George Washington was the first President, and without his leadership, this country probably wouldn’t exist today. I’m not saying he was all sunshine and rainbows, but we can’t just ignore history in favor of political correctness.

So you want the region to adopt it's previous name then? The Columbia District it is then, I'm sure that won't cause any confusion.

Any name change cost would be less then drops in the bucket even though it'd look like a lot of money to us. $100 is a lot to you or me but to a large company or a government, literally nothing.

What knowledge am I lacking? I know most colonists were racist and the Constitution might not have passed without the 3/5 compromise.

Hell, Oregon in the early 1900's had mostly KKK members in the seat of Oregon's government, so do you think we should change that as well?

The cost of changing the name of the state would be trivial to the state, federal government, or companies even though it looks like a lot of money to you as an individual. That's basic economics.

I'm pretty sure we don't actually know the origin of the name but Bear Stearns doesn't actually care about that, he'll say Oregon is a racist name invented by racists because that's what he does.
