I don't know, should we also rename the months of July and August because they were named after emperors who ruled over an empire where slavery is allowed?

You'd be surprised how many names based after historical figures we'd need to change if we're going to remove anyone who doesn't match the cultural expectations of morals we have today since every historical figure who influenced and ruled nations have some skeletons in their closets, be it slavery or any other human rights abuse.

How about you come up with an alternative?

Why? I'm not the one who thinks that the only acceptable course of action is one that leads to your "normal" world.

But the Founding Fathers were almost entirely Protestant, including George Washington. He was Anglican, in fact.

I have heard some argue that because George Washington was a slave owner, racist, and a homophobe that he shouldn't be glorified and that the state of Washington should be renamed. This is especially true since Washington is a heavily liberal state.

I am undecided on this, but I can definitely understand the arguments for not glorifying George Washington anymore. What do you think?

Washington is very liberal, but George Washington wasn't a homophobe. The LGBT community was very small or probably didn't exist back then, which means that he has little affiliation with the community or any at all.

Homosexuality wasn't even in the picture back then. It was rarely discussed and the subject considered taboo.

If anyone still hasn't noticed, people in positions of power back then didn't have power simply because they asked nicely. Rulers, kings. chieftains often waged war and named themselves after the places they conquered or claimed. They can try and rename Washington into "Rainbow Kumbaya" state but no matter how inclusive sounding it is, it'll just be a pretty lid on a jar of history. Emotional placebo.
