Let's say there's a store named Washington Laundromat. Dude admires Washington so named it that. That doesn't mean he has the money to change it.

He doesn't need to change it, does he?

Fun fact

It's possible for you to acknowledge someone's historical significance and instrumental acts in history that continue to shape the present, while also simultaneously disliking their personal qualities or beliefs.

Renaming the state of washington isn't gonna fix racism. I'm glad people on the left and right are coming together, hand in hand, to point out how silly this idea is.

Though it's not that big of a deal, since Washington, the US capital city, is officially called the District of Columbia and most people just say DC and its proposed state name is the Douglass Commonwealth.

There is a movement to split Oregon, (Maybe California), Washington, Idaho, British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Alaska to create the Republic of Cascadia.
Though the only two states I can think of that can leave legally from the US is Oregon because before it was official it had a Provisional Government for decades. And Texas

Cascadia is a weird movement because it's the only instance of horseshoe theory being correct lol

Secession, at least unilaterally, from the United States is illegal. Texas is stuck in the US of A, however, they can split into five states, for some reason.

I am undecided on this, but I can definitely understand the arguments for not glorifying George Washington anymore. What do you think?

All of our ancestors were homophobes. Terrible reason to shit and piss on them.

We cannot look at all historical figures as objectively good or objectively bad; being human, they committed a mix of good and evil deeds, held a medley of positive and negative beliefs, and had various biases. Ignoring one half of GW's legacy does not constitute a full picture of who he was as a historical figure.

I personally think it should be renamed, mostly because I think it would be nice to have more Native Amerindian names on things.

Renaming the state of Washington is a disgusting idea that doesn't deserve the light of day. George Washington was even liberal for his day. He advocated for increased tolerance of all peoples, he didn't free his slaves because he knew it would be futile (They would just become slaves somewhere else) so he did what he could, he treated them like family. Add to that the exorbitant cost of renaming every mention of "Washington State," worse if it's DC too. What about the other countless mentions of "Washington" (the monument, statues, streets, the list goes on?

OP of Empire's End RP, Frequenter of P2TM, and part of the F7 delegation along with -Astoria, Valentine Z, Western Fardelshufflestein, La Xinga, and Nooooooooooooooo.
“...My only complaint is that this guy seems to have plot armor thicker than the hull of a battleship. What’s this Holy Grail thing, anyway? I tried looking it up using foreign information networks but I kept seeing footage of knights being butchered by a rabbit... I don’t think that was a legitimate source.”

...and Josephus sorta started a nuclear war, so I'll just ignore the fact that Kakistopia has almost 50% of deaths due in some part to the God-Empress, and I'll also ignore that Josephus XII was raised as a child-soldier, and I'll say Josephus is the more horrible leader.

Probably Salish, as the language group covers a decent chunk of Washington (and British Columbia)

I was born in Reading, the town is named for Raedde, a Saxon pirate who charged in, murdered everybody and owned the land.

England is named for the Angles, a tribe of pirates who charged in, murdered everybody and owned the land.

France is named for the Franks, a tribe of pirates who charged in, murdered everybody and owned the land.

I now live in Cardiff, named for Didius, a Roman pirate who charged in, murdered everybody and owned the land.

If everywhere must be named for the autochthonoi, the original inhabitants, then conversations will go like this:

Hi, I'm Ug Ugsson from Ugville.
Hi, I'm Ug Ugsdaughter from Ugsburg.

actually, come to think of it, i did think when i was like 5 that washington was so named because of all the rain (which was constantly washing the western half of the state). so as a compromise, we could keep the name, retcon the actual namesake, & say the name was because of the precipitation all along
