Should the State of Washington be renamed?

Only if the people want to. But I don't know of any movement to change that state's name. However, what if we renamed some states to Jefferson and Lincoln? Idaho, Wyoming, and North Dakota could have been called that, and Colorado and Oregon could have been Jefferson.

Though it's not that big of a deal, since Washington, the US capital city, is officially called the District of Columbia and most people just say DC and its proposed state name is the Douglass Commonwealth.

There is a movement to split Oregon, (Maybe California), Washington, Idaho, British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Alaska to create the Republic of Cascadia.
Though the only two states I can think of that can leave legally from the US is Oregon because before it was official it had a Provisional Government for decades. And Texas

Secession, at least unilaterally, from the United States is illegal. Texas is stuck in the US of A, however, they can split into five states, for some reason.

The state of Washington was named after George Washington. I have heard some argue that because George Washington was a slave owner, racist, and a homophobe that he shouldn't be glorified and that the state of Washington should be renamed. This is especially true since Washington is a heavily liberal state.

I am undecided on this, but I can definitely understand the arguments for not glorifying George Washington anymore. What do you think?

We cannot look at all historical figures as objectively good or objectively bad; being human, they committed a mix of good and evil deeds, held a medley of positive and negative beliefs, and had various biases. Ignoring one half of GW's legacy does not constitute a full picture of who he was as a historical figure.

Renaming the state of Washington is a disgusting idea that doesn't deserve the light of day. George Washington was even liberal for his day. He advocated for increased tolerance of all peoples, he didn't free his slaves because he knew it would be futile (They would just become slaves somewhere else) so he did what he could, he treated them like family. Add to that the exorbitant cost of renaming every mention of "Washington State," worse if it's DC too. What about the other countless mentions of "Washington" (the monument, statues, streets, the list goes on?

actually, come to think of it, i did think when i was like 5 that washington was so named because of all the rain (which was constantly washing the western half of the state). so as a compromise, we could keep the name, retcon the actual namesake, & say the name was because of the precipitation all along
