Really should not judge someone from the past by the standards of today. The state, the city and the statues that honor the history of the nation is not about the man but about the history, the very foundation of the nation. He could have been a complete idiot (unlikely) in reality, but that has nothing to do with it. He was the first president, so his name holds a solidarity for a nation, and removing that name from history because he was a slave owner or had committed some other sin, would make the nation as a whole have less foundation. At what point would this nonsense be stopped. Remove every man from being memorialized because they are a man?
