Incorrect, while they cannot be REMOVED, except by impeachment, they can retire any time they wish.
Forcing them to stay in a job for life would be basically slavery.

They cannot. The filibuster has been eliminated for judicial nominees. Besides the filibuster is just tradition, the Senate could eliminate it with just a simple majority. The Senate can change its own rules any time with a simple majority.

The only ones who can stop it are Republicans.

She should not necessarily have to, but she was fully aware of the implications and potential consequences of staying in despite her health issues.
Her decisions still played a role in this, something we must acknowledge.

The problem was the senate. If she wanted to retire; old McC would have placed a yes man/woman in her slot.

Having recovered from the initial impact of this news, I feel like I need to say this:

Since I was seven or eight years old, Justice Ginsburg was my greatest hero. I wanted to be her, and at one point in time I wanted to be a Supreme Court justice to be just like her. Her commitment to justice and to the law was admirable, and her death is a great loss to the nation. She was very accomplished, and a role model to much of my generation. I'm sorry to those who knew her personally, but I am certain that she is in heaven now. If only one person deserved eternal happiness, it was Justice Ginsburg. This will become yet another political crisis, and I think we would do well to respect her wishes now. She deserves that much respect.

RIP Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

And, if I thought my opinion of the Supreme Court could fall no lower after Citizens United and the pro Gerrymandering decisions they made.

Now if we want any change in America, it will require the House and Senate, which is a tall order.

Though...*throws a shoe at the court* I think the Supreme Court justices should require a democratic election at the federal level, just like justices are elected at the state level.

The Supreme Court is basically a bunch of partisan senate appointed bureaucrats, who are given the seat not on basis of any actual support from the electorate - yet are deciding for the nation for decades to come.

With Bader Ginsburg's passing, things just got a lot darker.

Democrats just aren't as ruthless as the Republicans, whose only mantra is to win at all costs, hence why they've nominated 14 out of 18 SC judges since '69.

Again she did not have to, but she was fully aware that if she wanted her side to hold the seat, that was her best chance.
She chose not to take it. That was still her decision, and that decision had consequences.
That is just a fact.
