Strict originalist, Catholic, clearly very ambitious, hard-working and driven etc etc. Probably not a monster a la Thomas or Kavanaugh, probably a nice enough person in fact, but with a strongly hard-line Conservative judicial philosophy. Make of that what you will.

I dislike her rabid Catholicism but all things considered she could be a lot worse.

It's like how I feel over Gorsuch, I dislike his judicial philosophy, but all things considered he seems like a decent family man. As Therm said, could be Cruz or Cotton, which...yikes.

I don't think they'll nominate Cruz and Cotton is waaaaay too ambitious about 2024 to be a serious nominee unless they're trying to take him out of contention for the job.

Nominating Cruz or Cotton would be a dumb move, IMO. Makes a mockery of the court and increases the chances of the GOP coming up short on votes.

I really, really think they're going to put up Thapar though.
They've been grooming him for years and his friendship with McConnell wins him a lot of points.
This White House seems to operate on people they know rather than CVs more than any other Administration in memory. Note all the Wall Street types that did business with Jared all over the executive branch (Mnuchin, Esper, etc).

Agreed, anyone know when the last time the Senate has nominated a fellow Senator for the Supreme Court? I can't think of anything in recent history.

Thapar would be a good pick actually. He’s not super conservative as Barrett though so I don’t think they’ll go for him
