Probably because the OP is lying and making up their own versions of cited statements.

Also, the OP is wrong, regardless of whether the argument is made in bad faith or not, about the alternatives for Princeton. A third option is to continue to expand on the examples Eisgruber gave in his letter, and give an accounting of the systemic racism present in the US and how it harms students. That's the route I expect them to take.

Either way, it's clear that the investigation is done in bad faith, and is a mix of throwing meat to Trump's racist base during an election cycle and harassing an institution he doesn't like. Abuse of power to own the libs kind of thing.

Dealing myself in HR and recruiting. Princeton's letter was generally dealing with systemic racism. Systemic racism is rarely blatant at this point. It's the result of innate biases continuing at play from long time entrenchment of particular ethnicities. Princeton's letter and concern is to address that... the Dept of Ed.s response is largely pointless because the documents are not going to have recorded reasoning of people being denied things or approved things based upon race. It will just be underlying factors that is going to take a lot of nuance to see. This is something that I deal with on a daily basis managing my own department. When I have to handle these issues it takes more than looking over records.

The letter of the law and the spirit of the law are not the same thing. And simply because there is no documentation of specific reasoning violating EEO/EEOA does not mean discrimination isn't an issue and not taking place. Most EEO/EEOA claims are very hard to prove. But that doesn't mean that there is no discrimination happening, nor that it should not be addressed at some level.

The Dept of Ed, headed by someone who has the general competency of a wet sponge is rushing in there as part of a culture war. They are coming in with a hammer because they want Princeton to back-peddle on its statements. Because nothing is going to state "We didn't accept [X] because [X] was [Y] ethnicity".

This is basically painted as "AH-HA! Princeton has to show where they did not enroll/hire someone documented because of their race or they are lying!".... and frankly such a painting is made by someone who is, and I will be blunt about it.... extremely ignorant and naive of what actually is going on.... but then bending on the ranting on naive ignorant people is what this entire Administration is all about.
