Wow, we actually agree on something in regards to a police incident. I’m pleasantly surprised

Yes, it does make a difference when a person that was shot was attacking or attempting to attack somebody with a deadly weapon. The girl obviously had serious mental health issues. It was tragic she had died and I think a full investigation is warranted. BUT, this is no George Floyd. Breonna Taylor or Daunte Wright. Even though Ma’Khia Bryant was young and had serious mental health issues, she had a deadly weapon in her hand and was attacking or attempting to attack someone.

If the explanation is true, it looks to be a legitimate use of corporal punishment from my perspective. Inmates typically aren't allowed to disobey orders without consequence within reason. They should've not kept their arms out to needlessly hold the guards up.

Well, in the old days- she might've not have been killed. Its hard to say for sure. If society is sufficiently sexist, because she's a woman there might be more willingness to risk getting injured/wounded to manhandle her to the ground to subdue her. In today's policing environment however, her having a knife or weapon significantly raises the willingness of responding officers to want to resort to shooting her.

Its almost never a good move to get into a knife fight with someone if approaching unarmed, unless you happen to already be wearing stab proof armor from head to toe, but even then- perhaps some risk to it. Unprotected, almost guaranteed to get stab or slash wounds (a lot of which are fatal) if a knife hits you. Its more about putting space or obstacles in between you and the attacking person if defending against a blade.

How exactly is pepper spray supposed to work when her back is facing him at the time of the shooting?

spoken like someone who's never been pepper sprayed tbh, I seriously doubt a 15-year-old girl would require massive direct application to the face for it to take effect

You would think a public servant who's supposedly dedicated their career to putting their life on the line to protect their community would be willing to accept a slightly higher risk of getting stabbed and use a taser instead of mowing down a 15-year-old girl but ok

Of course they're going to say she threatened them and not say that they shot her without telling her to put the knife down, they're trying to cover their ass because they know shooting 15-year-olds doesn't go over well even if you do have a good reason to do so. Journalists uncritically accepting police reports is a pervasive problem in this country; you should check out what the Minneapolis Police Department initially tried to claim happened to George Floyd if you need a primer on how trustworthy they are.

And by the way, the sentence for "threatening others with a knife," if that is indeed what she was doing (which, again, multiple eyewitnesses say was not the case), is not "summary execution without warning."

particularly given that she was apparently the one who called the cops for help, I am not ready to just nod and say "yup, 15 year old had it coming, four in the chest was an appropriate and proportionate response"
