Here is the body cam footage of the Bryant shooting.

It's really hard to tell what happened right up front. As the video starts, there is a girl in pink holding a dog and not seemingly doing much of anything. We can see Ma'Khia pushes/shoves one person to the ground and makes them roll, but it's impossible to see what precipitated that. A man in the frame kicks this person while they are on the ground, while Ma'Khia stands up, turns towards the girl in pink, and appears to try and stab her. At this point, the police officer shot her.

The officer barely got there before shit went down - from the time the officer closed the door til the first person got pushed to the ground and kicked was less than 10 seconds. Less than 5 seconds later, Ma'Khia tried to stab the girl in pink, and the police officer shot her.

From the time the officer closed the door until he fired was about 13 seconds.

This one is a lot more murky than a lot of the videos we've seen recently (Floyd, Rittenhouse, Toledo). Perhaps a taser would have been sufficient, but the officer chose his gun instead. Perhaps it wouldn't. Hard to say.

Taser would only p off someone trying to murder another person. The Officer was doing his Duty to protect himself and others from harm. This is going to be a big thing like every other time something like this happens but what do you expect.

But it is important in our analysis to consider whether there was a non-deadly form of force that could have prevented her from stabbing the girl in pink without killing her.

But this was mo murder because murder requires intent to kill. He never intended to kill George Floyd.

Under Minnesota law, a person causing the death of another person, without intent to cause the death of any person, while committing or attempting to commit a felony offense is guilty of the crime of murder in the second degree. So Chauvin was convicted, in part, of second-degree unintentional murder. See if you can spot where' you're going wrong here...

Also he was convicted of murder in the third degree, which also doesn't require intent to kill:

Whoever, without intent to effect the death of any person, causes the death of another by perpetrating an act eminently dangerous to others and evincing a depraved mind, without regard for human life, is guilty of murder in the third degree and may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than 25 years.

He was also convicted of second degree manslaughter, which also does not require you to have an intent to kill. So...

Sorry, I gotta side with the cop on this one. Gun was the right choice. If she had just been brandishing it at the girl from a distance or was running at her then I would say the tazer would be a better choice, but this girl was within arms reach and it doesn't take a lot of effort or time to swing a knife and plunge it into someone's gut. There's no time to hesitate in a situation like that. But then again maybe he should have tazed her before she got that close in the first place.

That is a reasonable read on the situation as well.

That's why I said this situation is a lot more murky than some of the other ones we've seen.

Tasers are for a somewhat controlled situation. Not when somebody rushes by your blind side and charges with intent to kill.

She was going to kill that girl. Much as I think the police are out of control; this situation is not like the others.

It was probably impossible to ascertain the girls age, considering the officer was only on scene for less than twenty seconds when she began attempting to stab someone.

Yeah, while I am not generally trusting of police, I cannot really say that the officer was in the wrong here. Perhaps lesser force could have been used, but it does really look like she was going to stab that person.

Yeah, I agree. This shooting is a tragedy, especially if it's true that the girl was the one calling 911 in the first place because she was being attacked. However, it's hard to see what the cop was doing wrong here. As you say, possibly the choice of drawing a gun instead of a taser, but it's not immediately apparent that the officer did anything wrong.
