I want to point out how broken our society is, on the basis of two metrics:

1) We can't be certain of conviction on someone who literally kneeled on someone until they died on camera
2) We can't be certain the conclusion of a legitimate trial will be met with peace
Venicilian: wow. Jesus hung around with everyone. boys, girls, rich, poor(mostly), sick, healthy, etc. in fact, i bet he even went up to gay people and tried to heal them so they would be straight.
The Parkus Empire: Being serious on NSG is like wearing a suit to a nude beach.
New Kereptica: Since power is changed energy over time, an increase in power would mean, in this case, an increase in energy. As energy is equivalent to mass and the density of the government is static, the volume of the government must increase.

If he gets off after Mohamed Noor got 12.5 years, I don't think we're ever going to be able to convince the minority population of Minneapolis that they're getting a far shake.

Mohammed Noor only went to prison cause he made the mistake of killing a foreign traveller. It took that to get a cop sent to prison, an international incident.

Screw that. Why should police in public spaces have any more "protection" than average people. Why should they be able to get away with crimes because people where not legally allowed to document it. This law would have no positive.

I guess I could see particular protections in their private lives, so criminals would find it harder to target their families.

At work though, they are accountable to the public and should have zero privacy protection. I also think each officer should have a number prominently displayed front and back.

Fuck this bill. This would render the people into subjects of the police, not free citizens. You are essentially taking away a means to hold police accountable.

Legislators could hide out in the open, all they need is a police escort.

Some of the bill’s provisions include an outright ban on carotid holds, a prohibition of no-knock warrants in drug cases and the creation of a national registry for police misconduct that would make it more difficult for problematic officers to switch jurisdictions without a comprehensive tracing of their work history.

Implying the departments care about their work histories. Also this is assuming the moderate dems don't "compromise" and vote against this bill like how they've stood in the way of defunding the police.

I feel like prohibiting no-knock raids only when it comes to drug cases misses the problem with no-knock raids entirely.

^ This

No knock raids are a problem for all kinds of crimes, not just drug crimes.

Also, there may be some drug raids where no knock is appropriate - IE, raiding a warehouse with a billion or two in drugs guarded by dozens of heavily armed drug cartel security.

Nah.

Knock on the fortified warehouse door obviously and smash through the civilian house’s doors and windows locked and loaded. Get with the program.

Unedited video of an Arizona police officer fatally shooting 17-year-old Anthony Cano shows hm quietly complying with the officer's demands after being shot twice in the back and telling him, "I don't want to die."

The incident began about 9:20 p.m. on Jan. 2 when Officer Chase Bebak-Miller noticed Cano riding a bicycle without a front headlight near Nevada and Erie streets. Bebak-Miller activated his lights and sirens after Cano began weaving into both lanes of traffic.

The unredacted video shows Cano later abandoning the bicycle near an empty canal and running toward Gazelle Meadows Park. No one is around. Bebak-Miller chases after Cano on foot and shouts at him to stop seconds before seeing Cano drop a gun and reach to pick it up.

Bebak-Miller shouts, "Weapon drawn! Get on the ground!" less than a second before shooting Cano once at close range and, more than a second later, again. Cano can be seen immediately collapsing after the first shot and is shot again while lying face down. Bebak-Miller shouts at Cano to put his hands behind his back, which Cano seems to have difficulty doing. He eventually manages to slowly move his hands behind his back, but Bebak-Miller screams again for Cano to keep them behind his back when they fall to his sides.

"I'm sorry, sir," Cano can be heard saying. "I can't."

"Keep 'em there," Bebak-Miller says.

"I'm trying," Cano replies.

"Hey, I want to help you, OK?" Bebak-Miller says.

As other officers arrive at the scene, Cano then pleads for officers to"hurry."

Cano can be heard saying, "I don't want to die," as officers cuff his hands. ebak-Miller pulls Cano on his side as other officers administer first aid to one of the bullet wounds. Cano tells the officer that he was trying to throw the gun away.

"Well, I thought you were pulling it on me, man," Bebak-Miller responds. "That was f------ stupid."

Cano tells officers that he can't feel his legs as they continue to administer first aid. Officers cut off Cano's jacket and shirt while repeatedly telling Cano to keep talking as Bebak-Miller walks away and turns off his body camera.

Cano was transported to a hospital where he died on Jan. 23.

Bebak-Miller has five years of experience with the department. Chandler police said its Criminal Investigation Bureau completed its investigation into the shooting and submitted the case to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for review.

After the County Attorney's Office determines whether to pursue criminal charges against the officer, Chandler police's Use of Force Review Board will review the case before submitting it to a citizens review panel made up of 15 Chandler residents appointed by the mayor.

Last week, Cano's mother, Renee Clum, was among family members who questioned why he was stopped in the first place.

"He was scared, coming home. He wasn’t doing anything wrong other than riding a bike without a light.”
