The coolest countries in Europe, according to you

Postby Liburia » Mon Aug 31, 2020 12:51 am

What are the coolest countries in Europe according to you? I know coolness is subjective but tell us the names of the countries you think are cool and why.
I'll go first with my top five.

1. Sweden, for its welfare state, its inclusiveness towards women and LGBT people and the presence of a lot of irreligious people.

2. Netherlands, being the first country in Europe to introduce same-sex marriage. Also, for legalising prostitution and marijuana.

3. France. The birthplace of the French revolution. Also, for the introduction of the secular state and the presence of a lot of irreligious people.

4. Czech republic. The birthplace of the Prague Spring and the presence of a lot of irreligious people.

5. Estonia. For its e-government and the presence of a lot of irreligious people.
LONGLIVELIBÜRIA!
Imagine Europe being one country, situated in Australia, speaking one mixed language with a vocabulary from all european languages. The region of Notozia represents Romance Europe, the region of Vakaria represents Germanic Europe, the region of Ševeria represents Slavic Europe while the region of Ortiria represents the remaining Europeans.

Proud citizen of the European Union

I checked the climates, the coolest countries in Europe are Russia, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Sweden.

Edit: Since Russia's temperature probably includes its asian part, feel free to include Estonia instead.

France, for the Crusades being led by them and the French revolution, also the most noble and musical sounding language.

Spain, thanks for the Spicy Latinos, they're hot, that's all due to Spain. Plus it's at the confluence of Christian, Jewish, Pagan and Muslim influences.

Malta, the great Seige of Malta was a monumental victory over impossible odds. They're the only member of the EU which speaks Arabic yet they're Christians.

The Netherlands, their Hydraulics and Engineering is World Class. Plus, free weed. Hehehe.

Finland, because Kanta Hame our TITO commander is from there. Hehehe.

Greece, where Democracy and Philosophy originated from.

Italy, all roads lead to Rome, plus I am a shameless slave of the Pope.

Poland, because of the Witcher series based on Polish mythology and how they're so resilient.

I thought you would be glad that grand olf Holland AKA The Netherlands was mentioned among the coolest. I certainly think so. Amsterdan is like Venice, a city of Canals, except it's on the North.

It's not Holland aka the Netherlands.

It's the Netherlands, aka holland. Netherlands is the proper name, the other is some drivel.

Switzerland, apart from it being incredibly capitalist and its conscription. But otherwise kinda based.

Sweden's got some decent music as well \m/

God willing, there will only be one country in Europe in the future...

My favourite parts of Europe though? A very tough thing for me to answer. I've been everywhere except Belarus, including Transnistria, Crimea and Kosovo. As a French speaker, I get the most out of my regular trips to France since I can speak the language and immerse myself more. My German and Spanish are decent too, so I had a nice time in the Rhineland and in Spain! Central Europe is very beautiful too, super underrated until this decade. My summer in the Visegrad + Austria was really enjoyable.

Overall I would rank my favourite places France, UK, Spain, Italy, Germany, Poland, Austria, Czechia. Very hard for me to make a decision because I've never went on a trip I haven't enjoyed.

Gotta get that One Europe in there somehow :p

UK's decent not gonna lie, although I'm not a big fan of the politics (though it could be worse), but that won't be surprising.

Honestly I ranked them all ignoring the politics. Purely based on my experiences with the countries, which is usually a combination of what the average accommodation and food is like, plus things to do for obnoxious tourists like myself.

My "cool country" list isn't based on what happened there 50 or 500 years ago but rather how they are now, so here it goes:

1) Czechia, good food, beer and architecture, overall very nice and laid-back vibe;
2) France, overall the most likeable country in Europe with immense cultural heritage I enjoy thoroughly;
3) Switzerland, tidy, orderly, fresh and a little bit boring.

This nation does not reflect my RL views.

Purely on the basis of where metal bands I like come from, I'll go Norway, Sweden, Hungary, France, Romania.

Not counting Britain as part of Europe here, as that's a road full of angry dragons.

It gets quite cool here in England - it's midday in August and it's only 16 degrees Celsius at the moment.

On a more serious note, there's a lot of cool places in Europe. Brittany is a great place to visit on holiday and due to how easy it is to get there I've been many times, and I've thoroughly enjoyed the trips I've done to the Black Forest, Munich, Norway, Amsterdam, Bruges, Luxembourg, the Algarve and Denmark. And I've always wanted to visit Iceland.

And on the topic of Denmark, my mum lived there for about six months around 1989 and she really enjoyed that experience so I guess that ranks pretty high.

I am from the UK but I'd never rate it in my top ten best; most likely top ten worst. Except, that is, for the Scottish and Welsh countryside.

10. Serbia - Kosovo is a country in my view but the more rural areas of this country are underrated in their beauty.
9. Denmark - Land of the Scyldings! Also home to one of the first truly progressive kings in Hrothgar.
8. Belgium - It recognises its fallen heroes, and I respect it for that.
7. Spain - I don't endorse bullfighting but this country has nice weather and beautiful traditions.
6. Greece - The birthplace of modern democracy and representation. However, on the down side, it gave us referendums.
5. Germany - Did a great job of rebuilding itself after reunification. But now, it needs to come to terms with the fact that it doesn't rule Europe, and it cannot manage everything on its own.
4. Sweden - A pioneer of the welfare state and extremely open to progressive ideas. That is, however, an outdated perception, I feel, based on recent concerns.
3. Norway - Another Scandinavian welfare state. Also extremely beautiful in the north-east (and not just because that's where I imagine part of Dryicor being situated).
2. Finland - Beautiful language. North-east Finland is also where I imagine most of Dryicor being. Also did a great job of standing up to the Soviet Union (excluding WW2).
1. Iceland - Its isolation from most of Europe has ensured the development of a very different culture and unusually conservative language. Also has nice unpronounceable volcanoes.

I'd have to see more of Europe to make an informed opinion. Of the places I've traveled in Europe (I've only seen 3 countries there), definitely Austria on account of I can't resist a nation full of steep, alpine peaks to climb, great ice cold beer, and fatty, hearty food. Would love to go back.

I have been to many countries in Europe. But since I can only pick a few in particular as coolest, I liked the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Germany, France, Spain, Greece, Belarus etc. They all had their unique charms.
