Fuck away off.
Peasant! Should you not listen to and obey your masters? Do you dare to invoke their wrath?

Shamima Begum, who left the UK for Syria to join IS as a teenager, is not allowed to return and fight her citizenship case.

So the CCP won't let me be or let me be me so let me see, they tried to shut me down on CBC but it feels so empty without me.

What a disgusting judgement. The supreme court has always had a love of the national security argument above everything else and it really needs to stop.

There is ample precedent for saying no. Using the Cold War as an example, specifically the various folk that spied for the Soviet Union, once you defect there is no coming back. You can't generally say "whoopsie, I shouldn't have done that. Can I come back?" The only example I can think of where a defector was allowed to briefly return only for a visit was Len Wincott in 1974.

Is it a good precedent though? The people who spied for the soviet union were people who had clear-cut cases against them, we know what they had done and they'd have been carted off for a short trial and a long sentence upon landing.

But they didn't though, that's the point: if they had asked to get their UK citizenship back then I highly doubt they would have been allowed to.CoraSpia wrote:I'm not sure what the threat is in giving her her day in court unless of course they're worried they don't have anything on her that would wash.
She was a member of a proscribed terrorist organization under counter-terror legislation. Trust me, they'd make that stick.

This is a horrific ruling that leaves Shamima Begum in citizenship ruling and undermines the right to a fair trial in this country. It's appalling.

Then what is the issue? If they have a safe prosecution then she's spending a lot of time in prison, she's hardly being welcomed back into the country with the offer of a free house and dinner with the queen.

There's a clear difference here though - the UK has made commitments to not make people stateless and their actions in doing so clearly violated that. Prevent Begum from having a fair hearing to appeal that decision is shameful, regardless of what they've done.

Given that trials are all over Zoom at the moment, why can't she just participate from Syria?
