Boris Johnson ‘misled parliament’ over Covid contracts, court order shows

Boris Johnson misled parliament over the publication of coronavirus contracts, a court order appears to show.

The prime minister had claimed that the contracts, which are subject to a legal challenge and cronyism allegations, were “there on the record for everybody to see”.

But a final order handed down by the High Court on Friday said the government had in fact only published “608 out of 708 relevant contracts”.

The revelation comes after a High Court judge found Matt Hancock had acted unlawfully by handing out contracts without publishing details in a timely way after a case was brought against the government by the Good Law Project.

The order, by judge Mr Justice Chamberlain, said: “The defendant has published 608 out of 708 relevant contracts for supplies and services relating to Covid-19 awarded on or before 7 October 2020.

So per the Parliamentary Code, which states that “Ministers who knowingly mislead Parliament will be expected to offer their resignation”, when can we expect Boris to fall on his metaphorical sword? Especially given what's going on in Scotland and the apparent double standard this creates.

It is a perfectly sane spending decision and anyone who says otherwise is trying to cause national disunity just to score political points.

To be clear, unlike NHS staff, MPs are getting no pay rise this year. And whilst the figure quoted in your article is lower than the 10% some people have stated, it's still way above the 3% stated by the BBC, and still totally ridiculous. For example:

Ainland wrote:If you read beyond the confirmatory headline and look into the data, you find quite a different picture. Yes, there was austerity post-2008, but the NHS are just coming to the end of a three-year pay deal, which was agreed by all but one of the NHS unions in 2018. For example, an NHS staff nurse, working outside of London, four years after qualifying, received a basic wage of £23,345 in 2010. If we increase that in line with wage growth, to 2021 (using an estimated figure of 3.1% for the year 2021), that would be £29,446.05. Or if we increase it in line with inflation rate (using an estimated figure of 1.21% for the year 2021), it would be £28,704.68 in 2021. Whereas the actual pay in this case, assuming a 1% pay rise in 2021, will be £30,921.

Clearly this is just one example. But given the way the Agenda for Change pay scale works, you can find similar percentage increases across different examples (senior nurses, paramedics, etc.) and even higher percentage increases at the bottom of the scale (cleaners, porters, etc.)

It's always worth looking into the data. "NHS 10% Pay Cut", can be a very tempting headline for anyone with a partisan opposition to the current government, but it's simply not true.

You're pretty spot on, to be fair. To say that this is an issue of 'sanity', is certainly ridiculous, and just political mud-slinging. It would be far better for someone who disagrees with the 1% pay rise to sensibly set out their reasons why, and explain how much they believe should be offered, and where the funding should be taken from, within the NHS, for example.

Don't waste the postage. He'll be back at around the same time Laurence Fox's Mayor of London campaign fails.

Laurence should become the new Nigel Farage. He's much easier to look at.

So it took our world-leading and excellent value for money Test And Trace system six days to find the Brazilian strain case. Except he wasn't found by the system, he was found after turning himself in.

Laurence Fox is going to stand for Mayor against Sadiq Khan as a representative of the "Reclaim Party" and plans to fight "Extreme Political Correctness"

Saw the headline from the Telegraph but its a premium article so i cant access it. Edit: Here is a guardian one instead

If you are not familiar with this guy, he is an actor and turned into one of those ultra anti woke people who gives off about everything last few years. Main thing i remember seeing about him was him giving off about a Sikh soldier being in the movie 1917 forced diversity and people calling him stupid.

edit: how do words good
