Fuck cancer. Boseman was a genuinely positive icon in global pop culture and he deserved a far, far longer life.

This is shocking to hear... I remember watching the Black Panther movie I quite enjoyed his performance as well his other roles in Civil War and Infinity War.

Probably he didn't either. If it's caught early (by a fecal test or a camera up your bum if you want to be thorough) it has quite good survival rates. If it's only detected when there's visible blood in your stool or you have a persistent pain, it's probably going to kill you.

Diet (red meat, processed meat, alcohol), obesity, smoking, and lack of physical activity ... Wikipedia tells me ... increase the risk.

When I turned 50 (and every 5 years after), a contractor for government sent me a home fecal test to do and mail back in. I did it. The only disturbing part was their recommendation I store the sample tubes in the fridge until I could mail them in. That felt so wrong, poop in the fridge ... but luckily those tests came back negative and I didn't have to endure the greater wrong of having a camera and a sort of toenail clipper inserted half a metre up my rectum!
