I think that's a vast oversimplification of our relationship with China. China is a strategic competitor, but we're not exactly in the same situation we are with the Soviet Union. China doesn't represent the Soviet Union's efforts to eliminate the United States as a nation, indeed, China benefits off of the financial and global security system the United States has created. The security that the United States provides is fundamentally good for China. What China wants to do is subvert that system of global power for its own purposes. It doesn't seek to replace the United States as the guarantor of the world order.
China is the seller, we're the buyer. Both of our nations require the other at this point and I think both of us would be wise to recognize that.
China is like a heroin dealer and the US is the junkie.
