Socialism is an economic system, he didn't implement any socialist principles. He implemented a safety net and various social policies to placate and buy the loyalty of the populace and stop them from drifting into extremist politics seeking to upset the capitalist order of his time.

Like, I don't wanna be high and mighty, but it's a pretty huge meme when you guys complain about the right calling the government doing anything socialism and communism and then proceed to do the same things yourselves and it seems to stem heavily from a lack of basic education into what these things actually are. Socialist literature and theory isn't hard to find and even a quick read highlights the glaring flaws in your view on the topic.

It's not just an economic system though.

It also usually has accompanying political theories yes but none of those are present in the west either.

To play devils advocate, if modern western nations can be considered socialist then so can the Third Reich cuz they went all in on social welfare and such things. Centralizing and streamlining it in the early 30's was one of their big propaganda wins that helped win people over.

If even that place isn't overwhelmingly Biden, then it means Trump doing a tiny bit of cheating can ensure the margin is thin enough for Trump to win. There are signs that Minnesota may turn red. Same as how Michigan went in 2016. He can win via winning almost all the states he won last time, with a different unexpected one or two states shaking things up.

Mao "came to power" by recruiting communists on the Long March, and the cultural revolution happened later.
