No wonder Democrats want to pack the Court.

If Trumps nominee is confirmed they should.

We stop pretending we live in a democratic society and fully embrace the Presidential Dictatorship model of governance more than likely. Though its not going to happen seen as the GOP is far more willing to bust down democratic norms than the Dems are.

I'm down for the American Bar Association or an independent committee to confirm non-partisan judges to the Supreme Court. At this rate of partisanship, the Supreme Court is just Congress' 3rd Chamber.

Hopefully Republican senators grow a pair and tell McConnell no but I have extreme doubts.

Also the smart thing to do would be to hold off until after the election. That way Trump could make it an election issue that could favor him instead of throwing away everything and allowing the democrats to pack the courts or worse

It’s too much of a risk, because if Biden becomes president then we have a leftist on the court, so it’s best to get a conservative in on time

I know what happened, I was here when it happened. He's not going to stand by it and congressional Republicans won't care because they don't give a fuck about your precious system, they don't give a fuck about the rules or about precedent. They only care about taking, holding, and wielding power.

Her spot will be filled before the election, no question.

The excuse in 2016 was that a new president was guaranteed to be elected (no incumbent) so waiting till the election was preferable. Not saying I agree, but that was the logic. McConnell had power and leverage and he used it. That does not apply here. We could have the same president come next year. But more importantly, they control the presidency and the senate. Expecting a Republican senate to not seat a Republican nominated justice under some worry of hypocrisy is a pipe dream.

For some reason, that consideration isn't usually made. It would be great if people would judge powers not based on who currently wields them, but on whether they are inherently good and safe to be wielded by anyone.

Honestly just get the SC confirmations out of the hands of politicians altogether.

But then we would need a Constitutional Amendment... :(

If the Republicans shove through another justice, this election is going to come down to 5-4 Along Party Lines 2: Electric Boogaloo. I, personally, am terrified.

But the Supreme Court had a Right majority even including RBG ... thanks to the one the Republicans stole off Obama.

Replace RBG with "a leftist" and the court still favors Republicans. But it's never enough is it? Go on, steal another one.
