Strange that all this domestic political talk is not taking a backseat considering the US and China could be at war anytime soon. Seems some here have not been following the news of what has happened in Taiwan. US selling many weapons systems to Taiwan all at the same time does not help things. The chances have increased, certainly, not least because I don't think I'm alone in saying that this signifies, for many on the left, the end of any hope or faith they may have still had in governmental institutions now that SCOTUS is well and truly Conservative and will remain so. Ideas like packing the court will now become mainstream in liberal circles out of sheer desperation.

No, in 2016 McConnell refused to confirm Obama's pick, citing that it should wait until after the election. Expect McConnell to turn around and ram this through before the election - or before the inauguration if Biden wins.

I don't know if Obama would've been able to successfully do so, but it speaks to the idea that Obama's biggest mistake was his naïveté. He always figured he could compromise even at the face of frothing, vicious opposition. It rarely worked.

The Dems should take a playbook from the GOP and find a way to be ruthless in their legislative tactics, consolidated, and unified these next few years.

They technically don't have the popular mandate, since the majority of Americans didn't vote Republican for Senate, but whatever floats your boat McConnell. You got the votes, you make up the rules.

The senate isn't beholden to national popular opinion, only that of the states.
