No, in 2016 McConnell refused to confirm Obama's pick, citing that it should wait until after the election. Expect McConnell to turn around and ram this through before the election - or before the inauguration if Biden wins.

Life is inevitably ugly, especially now. As tough as it is, don't let it drag you down to the point of no return.

Would allow Trump to ram in a recess appointment, something Obama should've done with Garland.

Others that come to mind are Romney and Collins. Not enough to block a nomination, Pence can act as a tiebreaker in that case.

I don't know if Obama would've been able to successfully do so, but it speaks to the idea that Obama's biggest mistake was his naïveté. He always figured he could compromise even at the face of frothing, vicious opposition. It rarely worked.

The Dems should take a playbook from the GOP and find a way to be ruthless in their legislative tactics, consolidated, and unified these next few years.

There's only norms, and the GOP has a long record of trampling on norms if it means more power for them.

As if the Democrats don't, as if the Democrats are political saints, which they are not political saints.

So that’s two. Grassley and Collins are suspected to do the same. Graham might also considering that he’s in hot water atm

Will make for a crazy election if it gets blocked.

I think chances are still good that the Republicans get a nominee confirmed, but we'll see what happens here.

They technically don't have the popular mandate, since the majority of Americans didn't vote Republican for Senate, but whatever floats your boat McConnell. You got the votes, you make up the rules.

The senate isn't beholden to national popular opinion, only that of the states.

We'd just need two more besides Romney and Murkowski, otherwise they can ram a nominee through in a week and probably will.

So Murkowski and Romney are hopefully no votes. If they schedule the appointment in December and if Mark Kelly wins, that's 50 no votes. If Pence is tiebreaker, all hell is gonna break loose.

Collins is iffy, as is Grassley. McSally might not vote for based on her election chances
