You used to be very good on the subject of Cuba. Not because your opinions were 'right' or well accepted, but because you know a lot about Cuba and the regime. You probably didn't change a lot of minds, but at least you held up your side of an argument. Knowing more about the subject (even if some of the facts are in dispute) is a huge advantage in an argument.

Defending Trump in all things is a much harder task. And you're talking to people who (even just by consuming news) know a lot about Trump. There are two things you could do: study more, a lot more; or only defend Trump sometimes.

That's not strictly true. You have a right to write any name you want on a ballot. But not all states will record and publish it ... so actually you've just written a name but not voted for that person in any meaningful sense.

What I'm getting at, is that if you use a narrow and biased source as your one and only source before you post, you may well be confronted with something you don't know about the story. Most bias is just a matter of wording, putting more emphasis on one thing than another. But sometimes bias extends to leaving out what are probably facts.

One fact can wreck a point, or a whole argument. One dubious fact that you can't cast doubt on, can damage the argument badly. Facts you know already strengthen your argument ... but facts you start out unaware of, are like land mines.

The posts where you give a link and discuss what's in it, are your best posts. Because some facts are still fresh in your mind.
