Anyway, I don't think they should fully remove anything. Just add a disclaimer if needed.

Basically this one for me as well. Ohh how I do hate racism, discrimination, and all that but as Warner Bros' disclaimer and you have stated: To remove these is to pretend that these never existed. Or rather, you don't cast a shadow onto darkness; you cast a light at it - acknowledge it, admit that it was a wrong thing to do, and learn from it.

So what content is actually being removed?

I am not sure myself and I have looked through their OP on their actual site. Seems like they just left it at that, uncertain on what exactly they might start removing.

Of course, there's always speculation on what might be removed. Take it with a big grain of salt!

Why would it not work for newer stuff? We can tell that the Sopranos itself (from the early 2000s) is a pretty stereoptypical view of Italian Americans (and Jews, and black people, and hispanics, and pretty much anyone who isnt a WASP), and not accurate.

Slapping a disclaimer about the presence of racism at the start of a cartoon and then presenting it in its entirety, unedited and neither offering critique nor comment, makes me think of Donald Duck wrapping a towel around his waist when he gets out of the shower, but then proceeding to leave his entire ass on display.

For people to actually learn, especially the young people who would be watching old Rooster Teeth videos, there needs to be more teaching happening than just "Here There Be Racism". Someone needs to identify the racist parts and explain what's racist about them and explain why it's a problem.

And separately to that is the question of the morality of profiting from racist media. Is it okay for Rooster Teeth to continue making money from old videos that are in some way racist? If it isn't, then is disclaiming that racism enough for it to become moral? Is there some way for them to leave those videos up but not make money from them? Even if they don't run ads on those webpages, an episode of Red V Blue or RWBY or whatever else they make inherently serves as an advertisement for its own merchandise. Is that close enough to making money from problematic media to be an issue? Taking the videos down or editing them could get around these issues, but then no one's learning from those past mistakes. If Rooster Teeth did embark on a big revisiting of their old work and the problems with it, would it be okay for them to make money from that, from a "We Used To Be Racist And That's Bad" series?

Most likely they will be in there og form.

There wasn't anything in old RVB episodes that would need to be censored today.

you can also still buy the old dvds online easily.

And lets be real, the og episodes have been up for years. I would be insanely surprised if there wasn't any archive of it at all if it were tampered with.

Agreed. To simply erase the past because "it's offensive" today is even more harmful. People should have the full context of the past, and not just a censored version. Obligatory "Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it" and all that.

Agreed. Removing episodes from certain shows or just cancelling them outright (like with cops or Live PD) will do as much as putting a band-aid on a bullet wound to ease the pain. That won't stop shit like what happened to George Floyd from happening again. And it appears the hard left is starting to become those slimy, totalitarian social conservatives that make it their life's goal to get rid of shit they don't like just because it doesn't conform with their morally fucked beliefs.

According to Vassenor many of the file types were incompatible with their current infrastructure. So getting rid of them might have been something they had to do anyways. If that is true, then doing it under the cover of removing offensive content is one of two things: A way to justify removing them to fans or attempting to jump on the "we iz good company with many modern sensibility" bandwagon. The former is, eh, not that bad. The latter is kind of disgustingly opportunistic.

The first part of her post is in reference to the videos that reddit found look to mostly be videos that had already been removed for technical reasons and not videos that had been removed by RT for the reason of being problematic. The second part in Vas's post is her saying that the removal of the problematic videos would still be pandering.
