Saudi Crown Prince sent death squad to Canada

Postby An Alan Smithee Nation » Thu Aug 06, 2020 11:43 pm

A former Saudi intelligence official living in exile in Canada, is taking court action against the Saudi Crown Prince, for allegedly sending a death squad to murder him.
This happened shortly after the Crown Prince had Jamal Khashoggi murdered in the Saudi Embassy in Turkey.

From the UK perspective, how can we criticise Russia for murdering dissident refugees in other countries but not Saudi Arabia for doing the same. It's just arms deals I expect.

The US also turns a blind to Saudi Arabia because of their oil. If oil wasn't involved, the US would treat it at the very least like Iran; always on the edge of war, if not already at war. In this scenario, the UK will likely have to do the same since it's part of NATO. If the UK were to sour relations with Saudi Arabia, the US in turn may get some oil tariffs due to the NATO connection. Just thinking out loud.

Saudi Arabia should be sanctioned and treated the same as Iran. The Saudis are the ones exporting radical Islamic ideology and fucking my country up. A complete end to fossil fuels will end the West's dependence on Saudi Arabia AND lower carbon emissions, which will go a long way toward averting catastrophic climate change. In common with other Gulf states, Saudi Arabia is only as rich as it is because of its massive oil reserves and reliance on foreign indentured servitude. The moment we stop buying their oil, their economy will implode very rapidly.

EDIT: Saudi Arabia's demise will also mark a turning point in the struggle against Islamic theocracy and Muslim supremacy across the Muslim world and a possible return to secular, liberal democracy. Muslim countries weren't always this conservative.

It's actually quite smart of him to bring this attempt on his life out into the open and kick up a big stink about it, because if anything happens to him now then it'll be obvious who was responsible.

To be fair, if he died of anything that wasn't a heart attack, SA probably would've been blamed anyway just because of who he was.

Not what I meant. Making a stink about the attempt can act as a deterrent to them trying it again, since the eyes of the world are watching now. If he hadn't have raised a stink about this, would you or I be discussing it?

If it weren't for the oil then we wouldn't be there. Saudi Arabia would occupy the same place in our foreign policy as Mozambique or the Soloman Islands.

Been thinking the Saudis are crazed maniacs and the world would be better if Saudi Arabia wasn't a Sharia state. Why couldn't they be like Lebanon (minus Hezbollah and Israel bombing them and a bad economy and fertilizer explosion) and be a normal country?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finances_of_ISIL

Website The Daily Beast in June 2014 accused wealthy donors in Saudi Arabia and Qatar of having funded ISIL in the past. Iran and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki have accused the governments of Saudi Arabia and Qatar of funding the group. Ahead of the pro-Iraq, anti-ISIL conference held in Paris on 15 September 2014, France's foreign minister acknowledged that a number of countries at the table had "very probably" financed ISIL's advances. According to The Atlantic, ISIL may have been a major part of Saudi Arabian Bandar bin Sultan's covert-ops strategy in Syria.

IIRC that was in Somalia; but let me check...
Edit:
Execution is usually carried out publicly by beheading with a sword but may occasionally be performed by shooting.[citation needed] In April 2020, minors who commit crimes will no longer face execution, and would instead face a maximum of 10 years in juvenile detention facility.
Nothing about stoning here.
Turns out that I was right about Somalia - except it was carried out under a terror group, & was for adultery, rather than witchcraft.

Saudi Arabia gets US support due to the fact the US needs an ally in that region of the Middle East. Sanctioning them a) removes that and b) makes ensuring commerce in and out of the Gulf of Arabia is safe much more difficult. The Saudis offer to us a valuable staging ground in addition to their oil reserves, which are less important today now that the US is the world's largest oil producer. Besides, you don't think that even their shitty government helps with stability in the region? Imagine if we stop supporting them and their economy implodes. Don't you think that extremism, instability, infighting, and a breakdown of the social order on all levels of the largest country in the southern Middle East will follow? How in the sweet fuck is that better than what's there now?
